RIP Mage Blackguard Weapons (April Update)

we should get refunded the shards spent on these items to upgrade them to 625 !! agree’d i sad that the fire staff i spent so much time falling in love with is now just bank fodder…

with enough players finally running around with plagued hits we were stopping the 8 healer meta in OPR … more players were switching to dps due to dieing from lack of heals… now with this change its right back to stack your team with 8 healers… nobody dies… just endless jukes till 1 person messes up and none of the 8 healers auto full heals him and keeps the endless melee going…

sure nobody wants to “die alot in a OPR” but its part of the fun, its how you get better… now we have fire mages running around with flamethrower cause they get endless heals on them and cant be taken down anymore… its silly… dieing and respawning isnt very hard on a active OPR when the rez tower is built… youll get players who stand in fire alot and die on tempest and wonder why they cant just get 8 stacks of fire dmg on snake boss calling him unbalanced !!!.. the heal meta ruins the emergent of active combat

For goodness, just farm the shards again.
It’s not the end of the world or RNG

2 months actually, they knew they had plagued strikes in ptr, didn’t do anything about it, some people even thought it was intentional, like infamy/lazarus bow having an “impossible” combination too (vicious+enchanted)

Why the heck we are wasting our time for mistakes of AGS which can’t realize a damn thing until a month or two??? Please explain that to me…

CM… we understand your job is to use corporate speak to keep the masses from just rioting as best you can… offering bread crumbs of hope that were never part of the cake or pie. I get it it is your job.:: but your credibility is fading fast, if not gone. Lackey with a keyboard to spin the ignorance of your company. The “what would you do “ responses to the excessive advice already out there to make it feel like people are being listened too is a joke……. Again not your fault … just trying to do your job… and it is difficult job… but what the devs are doing or more specifically not doing to fix the game and /listening to the feedback is not only slapping us in the face but you as well….

Yeah, right. It’s blatantly obvious that the developers hate mages and heavily favor GA users. We don’t care what you say any more because we watch what you do - with every single patch, you gimp us and buff GA users, you give str builds multiple BiS dungeon drops while int users have to craft almost everything and the moment something that’s actually useful for us comes out, it’s immediately nerfed - but only AFTER we’ve spent dozens of hours farming it and spent the umbral shards upgrading it. Mages are clearly just cannon fodder for GA and BB users to kill as far as the developers are concerned. You have treated us with utter contempt which is why so many of us have quit the game.

I’d been looking for a replacement for my ice gauntlet. The Blackguard’s ice gauntlet lacked vicious but Plagued Strikes, Keen, and Keenly Empowered seemed like the best ice gauntlet I’d dropped. I leveled it to GS 625. Before I even use the weapon in this state, I find the best perk on the weapon has been replaced with an armor perk. This is NOT a fair replacement. I have three pieces of refreshing evasion on my kit, I don’t need 4.

I came here to politely ask for a refund of umbral shards put into this ninja-nerfed weapon.

An alternative solution would be to put a legitimately comparable perk on the weapon - vicious or keenly jagged. Even enchanted or refreshing move.

Calling this bait-and-switch nerf a “bugfix” does NOT make it OK. You may as well have fully deleted the weapon.

I have been a huge fan and advocate of this game. You tend to admit when you’ve transgressed your players and make it right (Ring of the Forger and Harvester set deletion). I trust you will do so this time.

These weapons were most definitely “bait-and-switch” to get people to keep playing the game. I honestly barely log in anymore since the patch. I don’t want to waste my time playing a game that is constantly going to remove/change my rewards to something completely useless. I kinda feel like a sucker for putting up with it as long as I have.

“Hey look at these cool item drops you can get running the new really annoyingly long dungeon!”

1 week later

“…And we nerfed them to B tier because reasons.”

I don’t get how they know that players are unhappy/angry about this change but don’t revert or change anything it’s like they don’t want to retain their already dwindling player base.

Any news if the Blackguard Void gauntlet is getting reverted back @Aenwyn ,as it didn’t posses plagued heavy strikes so it wasnt the problem of bug you just changed it for no reason …

kinda sad, ice gauntlet still ok as support weapon…
nothing else on that weapon left anyway :frowning:

Fellow FS/IG Mage here, I was in the same boat as you when this whole issue came to light while having the Blackguard’s Firestaff stashed away in my inventory ready for upgrades, unfortunately I was unable to loot the Blackguard’s Ice Gauntlet (which really doesn’t matter now anyway) and would of upgraded those to 625 if had not the changes.

I’m still utilizing Firevine Battlestaff which drops from Garden of Genesis and Taiying’s Heart IG which drops in Mutated Dynasty. I’ve been using both for MONTHS which of course are both 625. Thing is, many players especially Mages, we are right, there isn’t a BiS weapon for Mages. Void Gauntlet is close for them being more abundant where they are near BiS perks but not 100% total like many melee weapons have their BiS or two by now.

I would suggest if you’re looking for a IG alternative is either Taiying’s Heart (Mut Dynasty drop) OR Crystalline Curse (craftable). Those two are pretty much the best INT IG’s you can get or just have plain luck crafting a BiS Orichalcum IG.

As far as Firestaff, Firevine Battlestaff is pretty much the “go to” FS most Mages use. Even if you look at all of the Firestaffs on the data base, there really isn’t comparable Firestaffs that stand out aside from Firevine really. Mages don’t even have a single BiS weapon in the game. Kinda sad actually.

For Void Gauntlet’s, I wouldn’t salvage the Blackguard’s VG just yet since they “might” revert it back to Plagued Crits. Other VG’s in consideration would be “Absolute Terror” and “Souldrain” for the time being. Good luck! :+1:

Now that my upgraded Blackguard’s FS and IG are total trash, I’ve gone back to using Crystalline Curse, but for FS, I use Emberstone’s Promise, as I have not been able to get Firevine Battlestaff to drop. Well, I do have one that is 580 that dropped BEFORE my expertise was 600. This is the first real change/issue with the game that has me on the verge of quitting.

I use firevine and crystalline curse as well. Problem is neither is best in slot. Firevine remains the best droppable fire staff AFAIK but refreshing is not best in slot on a weapon. Because you can get your fill of refreshing on armor and jewelry. I don’t think any perk on crystalline curse can be considered “best in slot”. I have a taiying - refreshing is a throwaway, vicious is questionable on IG.

With the forthcoming healing buffs. How is it seen as appropriate/important to remove heal cut from mage builds?

You say this was unintent. But there still exists an IG with plaguestrikes. The issue was the half attempt at fixing the issue. We communicate that refreshing evasion was a bad choice. The makes my Firevine battle staff better than the new Blackguard weapons and making progression completely invalid. We expressed this way before the patch notes were even realeased regarding the changes to plaguestrikes to refreshing evasion.

@Aenwyn has there been any further talks on at least fixing the void gauntlet. That absolutely should not have been changed. Is there any information on choosing a better perk for FS/IG? Why not just make them plagued crits as well so at least they retain a perk that was rollable. I hope the team does not intentionally avoid this topic in hopes of it being “sweeped” under the rug and forgotten about.

@slayer1990 The void gauntlet is being rolled back (no changes to the other items at this time), though please note it’s still going through our testing process (~2-4 weeks) and won’t be in the next patch.

While I’m still reading feedback and relaying it, I’m less inclined to jump into a thread that’s not staying polite with their feedback. I hope you can understand - I’m only human.
