Roll in light armour is shorter if you have a musket in-hand

  • What is your character name in New World: irrelevant
  • What server/world did you experience your issue on: irrelevant
  • Describe the issue you are experiencing: When rolling with the musket, the roll is shorter than normal rolls. This only occurs when the musket is unsheathed and the player is moving at the time of the roll. If the musket is sheathed, the roll is normal length. If the player is standing still, the roll seems to be normal length. This also isn’t tied to any specific weapon mastery perks. I tested it with no perks and it still happens.

  • (if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay: To play muskt effectively (in both pve and pvp) you need to create and maintain distance from your enemy. Rolling in light armour is the main way to do this. The roll being shorter results in the core playstyle of this weapon being hindered.
  • (if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue: No, I have yet to recover from the emotional damage this has been causing me.

  • What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced: Equip musket. Make sure it is in-hand (unsheathed). Hold W and roll. Do this again with the musket sheathed. The unsheathed roll will be shorter than the sheathed roll. Don’t see it? Just watch the video for proof.

I made two video clips to verify and demonstrate this bug. I recorded my inputs within a macro so that I could compare rolling with rapier vs rolling with musket (where the inputs are identical in both videos). I then started in the same place and looked at the same spot to begin both tests. Here are the videos:

You can see that the rapier test goes ~5m further than the musket test. Proving that musket roll is shorter.

Here are the two “ending” positions for those two tests. They start in the exact same place. They use the exact same inputs. And the rapier test goes noticeably further than the musket test.

I’ve reported this bug numerous times already and I will continue to do so until just one AGS staff member acknowledges it and says that they are making the dev team aware of it.

When will this bug ever be acknowledged? I’ve been posting about this for over a month. Literally all it takes is one person at AGS to see this and say “Thanks, we’ve forwarded this on to the devs”.

How can you have faith in a game that doesn’t even put the minimum amount of effort into discovering its bugs??? I guess based on the way the PTR moves into live with hundreds of bugs, it seems pretty likely that AGS just doesn’t care about bugs.

They don’t care… The combat is fun but the devs are killing it day by day

I’m hanging onto a bit of hope that in a year or two we’ll be in a good place with fluid+responsive combat and a wealth of engaging and challenging content. There’s not much in the way of justifying that hope currently, but I want to believe because this game has the fundamentals to become one of the best mmo’s I’ve ever played.

Can confirm. I guildie specifically told me he doesnt spec dodging haste on musket and uses his rapier whenever he is rolling.
