Screen goes black

Downloaded New World w/ success and played for a bit. Tried to exit to main menu, and screen went black. Could still hear music in back ground? AMD Drivers are updated. I had to reboot computer to get it to work properly. I tried to get back into game 5 or 6 times. I kept getting black screen ! I cannot play the game. Not sure what to do. Cannot find this tech error on support page.

  2. Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system.

If you don’t want to pay for the Pro version, you can still download and install all the drivers you need with the free version; you just have to download them one at a time, and manually install them, the normal Windows way.)

Fix 3: Make sure your system is up to date, check for windows update
2
.
Once you’ve installed all the updates, restart your PC and check if New World crashes again.
Fix 4: Change in-game graphics settings

  1. Open New World. On the top right corner, click the gear icon to open settings.
  2. In the left pane, select Visuals. Then set Object details to High or lower.

Now you can play and check if the crash stops.
Fix 5: Increase your virtual memory

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and type advanced system settings. Click View advanced system settings.
  2. Under the Performance section, click Settings….
  3. In the pop-up window, navigate to the Advanced tab. Under the Virtual memory section, click Change….
  4. Deselect the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives checkbox. Then select Customize size.
  5. Enter Initial size and Maximum size according to the physical memory of your computer. Microsoft recommends that virtual memory should be 1.5 to 3 times the size of physical memory. In my case, the physical memory (actual RAM) of my computer is 8 GB, so the Initial size for me here is 8 x 1024 x 1.5 = 12288 MB, and the Maximum size should be 8 x 1024 x 3 = 24576 MB. Once you’ve entered your size of virtual memory, click Set, then click OK to save the changes.
  6. Restart your computer and check if New World crashes again.

Fix 6: Delete specific game files
You should back up the files before deleting in case things go wrong.

  1. On your keyboard, press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key) to invoke the Run box. Type or paste %appdata% and click OK.
  2. how to clean uninstall Discord
  3. Go to AGS > New World and delete the following:
  4. The savedata folder
  5. The user_preload_settings file
  6. Now you can restart New World and see if the game crashes again.

I hope this information granted has been provided you gives a great and helpful insight.

I have tried all your suggestions to the best of my ability and I still the crash to black screen. This is ridiculous. No other game I play does this!!

Welcome to our world. Hundreds if not thousands of us experiencing this. I been dealing with this for over 3 weeks now. With zero working solutions. And like you, the ONLY game it happens in.

So sad. When I am able to play, I do enjoy the game itself. I just can’t believe there are so many players having the same issue we are. Their priorities seem to be messed up.

I had this happen when playing ESO. I was using a 1080 Ti graphics card and a AMD 5800X on a X570 mainboard.
The fix turned out to be updating the motherboard BIOS to the latest version. Also, keep the Chipset drivers updated as well.
Good luck.

Yes, I have been reading the forums regarding this topic and mobo BIOS update has been mentioned. I did find BIOS updates for my older mobo, Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H 1.1…but I was not sure which update to download, so my IT guy said that all of them should apply. So I downloaded all of them. Didn’t seem to hurt anything. I’m still able to play WoW, ESO and FFXIV w/ no issues. However most of the time I try New World,…CRASH, right to black screen!

Ya ive updated BIOS and everything under the sun except for new hardware, though did go out and buy a new PSU in case that was the issue. Which was not. :man_facepalming:

Exactly!!! I really only play MMO’s, and none of them crash, ever. Why only NW? Feels like we ordered a Pepperoni Pizza and they delivered only the dough.

this is still the same issue that was causing the bricked gpus … black screen . sound on . its the precurser to damaged gpus… it amazes me that its still happening and still hasnt been fixed…

you shouldnt need to mess with your system to get a game to work lol . nor should it be putting your hardware at risk… which that black screen , sound on issue is exactly that .
