Tbh. for me, right now, the biggest downturner for the game is its community. The whole constant negativity about every aspect of the game is just starting to wear me down. It’s not only the forums which I could just ignore, if it wasn’t for the developer updates and general news that usually bring me here but also the ingame chat is just full of negativity by now.
I understand peoples frustration with the bugs and bad descisions that were made up to this point. Heck, I’m frustrated as well as I see a game with a very promising foundation that just isn’t brought to the point were it really shines but aside from providing (constructive) feedback, there is nothing we can change about it right now.
I’m closing in on 400 hours playtime and for the money I paid, I could just uninstall the game right now and would have had many more enjoyable hours in New World than in quite a number of other games that cost more.
If you feel like you can’t enjoy the game right now because it feels buggy and unbalanced, why in the world you don’t put it aside. You are not paying a monthly fee, you are not missing out on content. Why not just wait? Either AGS manages to get their stuff together or they don’t. If they do you’ll get additional content for several more years to come. If not, you had a good sandbox game that offered you a reasonable number of hours of entertainment.
If you are expecting that things will change from one week to another, you just won’t get happy with the game. Right now we have seen everything the game has to offer until the next big update hits (and imho, the void was not a big update, just a fill-in). So I don’t expect much change until some time maybe in February. That’s quite some time in which, aside from another fill-in christmas event, not much will change.
I, for one, still have to level some weapons, get my gear score up and level the trade skills. So at best I will play for 1-2 hours an evening and that will be it and I’m OK with that. If I get bored, I’ll play something else. That’s all there is to it. I did the same in Guild Wars 2. Played it again a year later and had a blast and a lot more fun for another few months and again and again and I’m expecting the same will happen with New World.
So if you are unhappy, leave your feedback, put the game aside, enjoy something else and come back later. Just stop shouting about how the game is shit, how you want to leave (while you actually don’t). You are doing the game and its community more harm than the state of the game does on its own. And if you want to play this game again at some point, don’t pull down everyones mood, especially of people who just started. You’ll just destroy the game in your own way otherwise.
Cheers
