Shield attributes (CON, STR...) don't count on character

    Constitution applied to a shield is not counted in total stats (neither on ‘K’ screen nor at the bottom of the inventory window). Possibly other stats as well. I’ve tried three different shields with CON only.

  • Is this a bug or an exploit: bug

  • (if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay: well… building a tank is harder now.

I have the same bug

Have your shield equipped and out, press Tab while already looking at where the stats are displayed… see if you see the numbers go red. If you do, it’s because the stat is only applied while you are wielding the shield, not while you are in the inventory screen.

Shield attributes only apply when you’re having your weapon armed. Why do weapon attributes apply always then? That’s a weird decision…

You are right - very weird and I did not exactly understand at first but going through the screen shots to demonstrate the issue got me there. Thanks for the help all!

My Shield Stats SHOULD APPLY 24/7 if i have a sword equipped to my weapon slot. This is not the case

Weapons give you the stats 24/7 whether its in your hand or not. Shield only applies stats when you switch to the sword.

Why does my bow give me dexterity bonus while i’m wielding a shield but not vise versa ( if i have bow in my hand and my sword stowed i only get sword stats and not shield stats.)

Amen… even if you do not have sword equipped - the weight of the shield is applied to your armour weight 24/7, so you should get the stats as well… People can choose to wear shield on their back which already makes them heavy - and it is the only weapon that adds it’s weight to the overall one… Either set the stats to the sword only… or make some Super Heavy category(like - unable to dodge - adds resistance if attacked from behind - to not let WH + GA + shield abuse)… or let all weapons add their weight - no only the poor shield.

I believe The sword and shield is a weapon combo so stats should only apply if you have a sword in your weapon slot which is still not the case.

The weight makes sense if you just wear the shield for looks.

But if u actually have a sword in your weapon slot i think the shield stat should apply 24/7 cause its part of the sword.

Well if it is a combo item they had to make it combo… item - it is the only weapon where you have to consider weight of the shield too - so far that some people use sword only style to stay in light weight. While I like the things it adds - if it weights it should benefit… And yes… switching weapon only to lose stats is ridiculous - here is the point to say what some weapons still use durability each time you switch them too.

The shield stats, all of them, only apply to you when the shield is out and equipped. The reason for this is so that random players can’t just throw a shield on their back if they’re not using a sword to get extra buffs and stats.

The problem is that if you are using a sword you still lose the shield stat whenever you swap weapons.

Shield stat should apply 24/7 as long as there’s a sword in a weapon slot. That’s not happening.

Yes, this has been reported since beta and they still have not yet fixed it. When you press x to wield your sword and shield you will see you con increase and pressing k will show your stats increase. Sheathing the weapon makes your shield stats disappear making you have half the stats as someone not using sword and shield and puts you at a disadvantage and also messes with your stat caps if you had them perfectly balanced.

We suggested to the devs to just double the sword stats to be like every other weapon and just remove the stats from shields to fix this problem

Swords & shields individually have about half the attributes of any other weapon and combined about the same - by not having the stats of the shield apply when you’re not using it, you have less stats overall than if you were to use a different weapon to the sword (i.e. you lose stats when you switch to your other weapon that you wouldn’t otherwise lose with something other than a sword).

Really, you should get the bonus stats all the time whilst you have a sword in one of your weapon slots, so the shield stats always apply but only if you have a sword equipped.
