Shields: Blocking stability and Block Stamina damage

I have 2 question about these parameters.

  1. Blocking stability - what is it?
  2. Block Stamina damage. Does it reflect the portion damage that we receive to our stamina or the portion of damage that we block? In other words is it the higher the better?

Thanks

I would very much like to know this as well. I want to have the optimal gear for tanking and I’m so confused by the mechanics of the different types of shields. I see a lot of ppl using the kite shields. I wonder if this is just because it’s an in between of a round and tower shield? To me it seems like blocking stability might mean the amount of damage you take before you become staggered. And Block stamina damage is the amount of stamina drain you take each time you block an attack.

The important question here is, which is more important for a tank? My opinion is, higher blocking stamina damage is necessary for when you are facing several mobs at the same time. And the higher blocking stability is more important for boss fights that do crazy blows. I’m curious to see what others think about this as well.

I believe block stamina damage has to do with the amount of extra stamina damage the shield does when used to bash a blocking opponent. I could be wrong, but I’ve noticed that shield bashing knocks an enemy’s stamina down much more than a standard or heavy attack.

Block Stability is the stamina damage you take while blocking attacks.

Block Stamina Damage is the stamina damage you deal when your opponent blocks your attack.

So if blocking stability is 35% is that better or worse than 25%?

So I did some test as I found this items:

By testing in a duel I found this information:

  • I assume that block stability reduce stamina damage received
  • Sturdy is equivalent to block stability

With the damage tests I found out that the round shield was blocking, rounded, 9% more damage compared to the Kite Shield

Hi everyone!

I just asked our Lead Combat Designer to clarify these terms and he said:

Block Stability is the amount of Stamina Damage that you negate when blocking an attack.

Block Stamina Damage is the amount of damage you deal to your target’s Stamina Bar when they block.

For example: If your Block Stability is 50% and an incoming attack’s Block Stamina Damage is 100, your stamina would be reduced by 50 points if you blocked that attack.

Attacks have an independent Block Stamina Damage value. While there is often a correlation with how much Health Damage an attack does and the amount of Block Stamina Damage it does (e.g. heavy hammer attack vs. light hammer attack), Attack Damage and Block Stamina Damage are different numbers and we tune them independently of one another.
