I have been thinking about this for a while now, and I cant help but feel OPR would be more enjoyable as 15vs15 instead of 20vs20. There are several issues I see with OPR.
-
Imbalanced Teams. Ive played games where its say 12 vs 19 before from people not taking the que and/or quitting out.
-
The insignificance of 1 player. Because its 20vs20. An individuals actions dont result in much. You see your home base is being capped and run there. 7 people inside. Cant do much. You run to mid, help out your 5 other allies, and then those 7 guys swarm mid, and now its 12v5 or something. I get its a TEAM based game. But it doesnt feel good when you just want to sit back, chill and PVP without having to go get some premade group and use coms, etc. There should be a place for “chill/casual” BGs as well as “serious BGs”.
-
Que Times. Lower Pop servers have a hard time getting 40 people to Que.
-
Latency Issues/Rubberbanding. You cant tell me that having 30 people all fighting at mid, doing Ice Showers, Grav Wells, etc. doesnt immediately cause problems.
I believe all of these would be potentially solved by just adjusting the player count down to 15 vs 15. Maybe not the imbalanced Teams, but it would enhance the actions of individual players or smaller teams. It lowers Que times. It solves some of the rubberbanding since you would have less players interacting, doing stuff.
Personally, I think OPR is unique, but it misses the mark. PVP players dont want to que up and go chop wood, or skin wolves, etc to get “buffs”. People want to capture points, and fight other players. Having all these “other” things to do, only causes frustration when you are trying to fight the enemy and you run past 2 allies, one is chopping trees, and the other mining ore…
