Simple instruction how to develop mmo

Patch, after patch it seems ags devs have no understanding how to make mmo. So here is is. Simple instruction that allows to not screw up.

  1. There are PVE and PVP oriented players. And ofc mix of players that does both. Point is, that there must be path for both to achive same goal. If you add new item A to the game, it should be achievable by doin pve or pvp. It will be ok if by doin pve you have x2-3 better change to get it or vice versa.

  2. There are solo players, small group and big groups. So when you design new system you have to look into it from all this perspetives. Best example is OPR. You can sign as solo player but also as 5 man group. Issue is 5 of 20 (16 most of the time) have to much impact. If you want premade groups to play vs solo players - you are doing it wrong.

  3. Time gating. Just No. There is no place in modern none mobile game for this crap. Want to slow down progress of ppl that have more time? Figure out better way. Example: each next orb you craft cost is x1.25 - done.

Time gating is the worst, but grind is just a little step above. Grind just to slow down players is wasting players time.
A better way to slow down progress: Story telling! Of course not every one will be interested in the story, but many want it and it is a good way to make simple activities more interesting.
If you have good writing.

(PS: contrary to popular believe, pvp needs good story telling, too!!!)

Well. Mmos are a grind. There are good ways to implement this and bad ways, but at the end its the same. As long as players have fun griding its dont properly.

The difference is how the grind is implemented. Right now, devs decide how grindy something has to be and implement the needed systems.
I propose to write a story and put in grind to pace the story, but never more then the story can carry.
Don’t build the story around the grind, build the grind around the story.

Yeah. The Game Director’s background was consoles, so Q R F attack might make sense. I do NOT get the where are the gates came from. Maybe this is what they thought an MMO was? It’s a long way from WWE All Stars to an MMORPG on PC.
