No thats pretty much it in a nutshell. The #1 sale tactic now days for anything is initially HYPE. You go see a movie that has a badass trailer only to realize…that trailer was all the badassness the movie had to offer. You already bought the ticket. They got theres…you got squat. These games are guilty of the same. AGS is just a little greedier however. Plenty of false promises and probably the worst time management to date to string players along

Well, it does align with the shift in how the stock market used to work. People used to invest for the long term, now its all short term flipping. Just like with housing. Flippers driving housing prices up (in part).
Modern video games are the equivalent of a 5 dollar chinese toaster at the dollar store.
Its essentially people being greedy for the sake of self profit at the expense of the customers livelihood.
I personally think most of this stuff borders or crosses the line on false advertising, but seems like all the developers design to be in that grey area.

We can only hope for a day there is a game … “By Gamers for Gamers” Or at least one that has developers that interact with some gritty testers rather then thinking they are the programmers and they know best. Its a walk of 2 worlds. AGS clearly are like not gamers, or they are SNES level gamers, I don’t know. But you can’t have over 25 years’ experience with this genre and then make the choices they are making. It clearly shows they created content without ever having an idea how that content would play out. But they had all the information they needed to make that assessment…and still did not. So were back to. Are they really just “THAT BAD AT THEIR JOBS” or is there as before mentioned a secret agenda to just quick flip people out and bring in new blood to feed the cash cow

I play No Man’s Sky often. Hello games embodies these values of making games to be fun for the player without being greedy. Other studios could learn a lot from them.
But I agree, most game companies, ESP if they are publicly traded, are pure crap.

I loved No Man’s Sky but for some reason that game gives me motion sickness, i.e. headache/nausea. The only other game to do that was Spyro the Dragon on my daughter’s PS1. Cool what they’ve been doing with NMS.

I get that way if I step away from 3rd person games for awhile. It takes me a week or so to get acclimated.
Oh it for sure is false advertising. But since the suits own our politicians, thus regulate the way we live. There is very little we can do about changing it. Maybe, other than trying to get a ticket with Elon Musk to start up on Mars and become the royalty of the new colony for humanity. Till the viscous cycle repeats itself again.

So why an MMORPG then? if AGS wanted to make some quick bucks by overhyping a game for initial sales, then drop it, why choose an MMORPG?
There are more popular genres (larger sales base) that are much easier to produce with less or even no running costs. The hype (marketing) is going to cost the same whichever type of game they produce.
Really didn’t even mention Old school Runescape which has been going bonkers lately and still growing player base 20+ years later.
Sad.
Because gamers are more interested in fundamentals. (RuneScape has) Streamers and children are more interested in New World (2023 MMO equivalent difficulty of gawd damn tetris with no fundamentals)
RS is a old beast of its own… not 3D enough to put in the same mix
I mean… I’m a new player and based on everything I’ve read about the game HOURS after I’ve started (can’t refund it now lol) I’m a lil uneasy about the fact that a lot of folks are kinda just giving up on the game. I do understand that the introduction of seasons is a cash grab, and I can’t exactly say I’m for it but at the same time I personally would rather have a decent update free of major bugs and enjoyable to play rather than some half baked pile of garbage like MW2 was the first 2 months of release or really any AAA title in the last 5 years. Regardless, if the game dies I’m still glad I got the chance to play it, but it’s a shame to see it go down this route. HOWEVER! At least they’re TRYING to make it SEEEEEEEEEM like they want to release something of quality? Right? Like that’s gotta be some kind of good credit.
False advertising is selling something different to what was advertised. I got pretty much exactly what I expected after playing from the first public beta, through watching Twitch and reading the advertising, which I believe you did too.
For those that dreamed of something else and the game didn’t meet their expectations, it seems they need something to blame, rather than themselves.

Its funny I must be playing a different game to most of you.
I purchased New World for the very reasonable sum of £35 back in October 2022. (There are barely alpha games that cost more than this on early access! Yes I’m looking at you KSP2)
I’ve been playing it exclusively since then, enjoying the grind, enjoying collecting gear and trying to climb the mutations ladder of late.
On top of all of that there’s a free update coming out today (probably).
New World has been great value for money imo.
Incidentally have you read the release notes? There are a LOT of fixes and improvements in there.
No game is ever perfect, ever. If you expect that then go do something else instead. Even wow had issues and they made you pay for it MONTHLY and when that got popular with the kids they ruined it with boosts etc etc…

They haven’t - I just uninstalled the game - done with the constant nerfing - time to look for something else. Time to find a “new world” to play in.

Nothing like teleporting around the map for 30 minutes getting your buffs and houses sorted just so you can craft and get terrible rolls

Do tell us what you find, because all I can find is older worlds with worse visuals, as bad or worse mechanics and and worse overall gameplay.
