I know I am playing a MMORPG and not a single game.
I’m so happy that you it’s fine, that’s all I want.
Here the issue is not a disadvantage, its an impossibility; I can not progress in the main quest solo.
Also, the (second and more important issue) is that I cant’ find any quests, anywhere, I’ve done them all (outside of group quests) and am too low level to even “see” the quests that I haven’t done yet.
I play as a solo player in many games before this one, it’s not my first, and one reason I prefer it is that it is harder.
It’s always harder to solo, in all the games I’ve played, and I LIKE that.
Here its not “hard”, it’s “IMPOSSIBLE” , big difference
Yes, that’s what I’m doing, faction quests and town board missions.
Though what I was “asking” (so to speak) was whether that was intended, that I must be “grind” (cause that’s what I consider it to be, a grind) to level?
I mean it’s what I’m doing, it’s what I’ll do, no big deal, but it’s a lot more boring to loot 4 chests over and over and over again, in the same location, for the town missions ;/
I mean, I had more fun gathering ressources for leveling my crafting and that earned me 3 levels on its own already! (although it was quite a lot slower)
Correct, your refusal to do group content prevents you from completing the games main story. Thats no different than any other MMO that has epic quest lines or keying for raid content, you dont want to group up to get that accomplished then you dont get to do that content, its simple.
So yes you’ve chosen to make it a grind and have to level up by doing town boards and faction missions, YOU chose to have that be your source of xp.
As a side note, town boards give massive xp, I have not finished the main story line, nor a ton of quests in all the zones and im level 59, so clearly you’re missing something. I did tons of town board missions and farmed my pvp gear sets, minus the level 53 and 60 ones, but I’m level 59.
Refusing to do group content is your decision, so if the game is exponentially more difficult that is by your choice, its not “impossible”. There’s a guy leveling to 60 by only fishing, theres a guy leveling to 60 only through crafting, they arent on the forums complaining that its harder because that’s how they are choosing to play the game, you have options, you just refuse to use them.
I have no issue with people playing solo, in fact besides doing the expeditions, ive played solo the entire time because my group was on a different server than myself, I chose to solo. My issue is you complaining that its “impossible” when in fact it is not.
Let’s be honest with each other; there are several steps on the way that require the player to run an Expedition or complete a mission that takes them to group-only content (elite areas).
As I’ve noted before, I enjoy grouping up and have absolutely no problem with it, but it can be a PITA to look for a group for hours on end. Moreso if one isn’t enjoying it.
There’s 2 things, but since you’re already way off, I’ll just focus on 1 :
We are talking about the main story line. Right? the m.a.i.n s.t.or.y quest line. The ONLY quest line that that “needs” to be completed in New World AND in any other RPGs including single player games, not simply MMROPG, because it is the MAIN STORY, you don’t get to the END of the STORY unless you complete it!
(as opposed to the SIDE QUESTS which you will notice, in the journal, are classed bellow and … are … optional)
There already are TONS of group content; corruption farming, wars, invasion, exhibitions, elite quests in the open world andd if I refuse to participate in those things, that IS my decision, and no one is complaining about those things. However because this is the MAIN STORY QUEST LINE, I can NOT refuse.
What’s the matter with you people? You afraid I might enjoy the game as a solo player? lol
Seriously, I don’t get this new attitude, you make a thread suggesting a pvp server for pvp player, and it gets FLOODED with PVE players saying they don’t want PVP players to go to another server. Like … what’s it to you? You don’t even pvp? It wouldn’t even change anything anyway because it’s on another server !! lol
Whatever the topic, there’s always people “not wanting others to play like they do”.
wow, anyway, it don’t matter, the devs are working on alternatives already. Check the “solution” in the OP if interested !
I don’t want to do it and I shoudln’t be forced to do it.
Even if I did want to do it, I can’t because finding a group is almost impossible sometimes.
So imagine I’m new to the game, 6 months from now, no one has alts, everyone is level 60 right?
How the hell am I supposed to do these exhibitions? I mean that’s already teh problem now.
Not only that, but since I am FORCED to do them, but I physically can not do them, cause it’s impossible to find a group, then I’m stuck. That’s it, goodbye, arrivadechi, ciao bella, hope you enjoyed the game !
Not anywhere in MMORPG acronym is GROUP mentioned. it’s not MMOGRPG
To assume that multiplayer means groups astounds me! There are lots of multiplayer games out there where you can play solo.
However, i agree that it is generally accepted, that at some point within an MMORPG, a player will need to group up to be able to complete certain quests. Now, imho, having the main story line force a player to group up isn’t great.
There are a lot of people that prefer to play solo and should be allowed to.
I personally like to group up. Although I am normally sceptical of the healer when I play other classes ( usually play a dps or healer) . So now I play as a healer in this game and yes i realise others look at me with the same scepticism
Gathering resources, for example, is a form of “solo” content, a lot of quests and leveling you can do them solo, you’re not forced to group up for EVERYTHING but maybe, sometimes, you’ll need to do so, like for example, the expeditions quests
You’re right, except those expedition quests (not all of them as far as I can tell) are compulsory for the advancement in the main quest. At one point in the main quest line, you will be asked to go to a dungeon, or instantenced zone, or exhibition, whatever, and if you do not, even if you want to but can not, you will not be able to pogress through the main story line.
Makes no sense! (thankfully, the devs replied alredy (see original post) that they were working on “alternative options”;
I mean, one can argue that player interaction and team play is at the very core of MMORPGs. After all, that’s why they were conceived, starting with MUD/MUSH back in the Telnet BBS days, dedicated multiplayer servers (shards) for Neverwinter Nights and Baldur’s Gate games, and other early implementations.
Without teamplay, it’s just a singleplayer game that happens to require the player to be always online. The letters “MM” in “MMORPG” stand for Massively Multiplayer, that’s where any group or social aspect is defined. By the genre’s very nature. It’s designed for players who want to interact with living people behind the characters instead of scripted NPCs.
But (!!!) … that said, I think Baba has one very good point. And that is, there are quests in the Main Storyline that require the player to team up and complete an Expedition or complete a mission in elite, group-only area. What’s worse, design of some of the quests requires that all participants who are helping him are on the very same quest.
What happens if, let’s say 6 months from now, everyone on a server is level 60… and now a new player comes in, and has nobody else to team up with for those quests? Well, what happens is that this new player won’t be able to proceed with those quests.
That specific part is, IMO, a critical blocker that needs to be addressed. Other than that, I think not doing Expeditions is the player’s choice and if they choose not to do them, they can’t blame anyone but themselves for content, gear, or XPs they’re missing out on.
Even anti soloers need to accept that Dungeons as part of the main quest is flawed - unless you have incentive for high lvl players to run them it is going to become an issue because as time goes on, less and less low lvls are around so it will actually become impossible to get players for a dungeon.
The game has a decent number of group quests/content which could be used as part of the Main Story, all of which is open world and much easier to get help for (or outlvl) even if later in the games life - because it is open world, not so stringent on roles and easier for a player to ‘pop in and out’ to help even if they get nothing from it.
I am all for group content, probably due to starting MMOs with Everquest and also because I game with my wife and a friend. Solo mentality is lost on me when it comes to MMOs, but that doesn’t mean I am blind to the fact that dungeons as main quest is flawed and WILL cause issues, even for those who love to group - becaus they won’t find anyone to group with later. So by all means disagree with the OPs choice of playstyle, but don’t assume his opinion about a problem is wrong, which is a bad habit on these forums (like those who disagree with rushers and dismiss the legitimate issues with broken content at 60)
i love mmorpgs. i dislike dungeon running. i’d rather be out in the world than running around in some instance over and over again. the whole point of an mmorpg for me is the world and not things that take you out of it.
and yes as many already pointed out, dungeons as part of the main story is a big mistake and will only make it harder for people to complete as time goes on. they can lead up to them and let you know what’s going down in there but they should not require you to actually run them.
You realize the m.a.i.n.s.t.o.r.y. line does nothing other than give you keys to the next dungeon for free and allow you to to upgrade your azoth staff, which are both group content. So your desire to complete the m.a.i.n.s.t.o.r.y. quest is pointless, you dont “beat” the game by doing it.
Your original complaint was you could no longer level due to not being able to solo the group content, as you said it was impossible to level unless you did town boards and faction mission which was a “grind”. Stop pivoting off your original complaint and moving the goal post.
MMORPG means Multi Player Online Role Playing Game
it does not mean
Multi GROUPED UP player Online Role Playing Game
I get that the devs may have put in a lot of work to make very nice dungeons (and they are, I admit it, they are very well made, very beautiful, immersive) and so they may feel like forcing their players to experience these, but taking away freedom in an MMORPG, isn’t the way forward, providing freedom and choice is where the real meaning of MMROPG content lies.
It’s what the original RPG books were all about, before RPG video games even existed : player choice, as anyone from that age might remember the “choose your own adventure” series of books.
