I really love New World so far and really want this game to succeed and have a full life for many years to come. That being said, I do have some constructive criticisms that I would like to share. Currently, I am level 26 and have noticed a few things so far throughout my play-through. The quests in the first 4 zones (the level 1-25+ zones) seem kind of the same. I go to the same people it seems like in all 4 of these zones, it’s just that they are in different spots, have different names, and have slightly different quests, but the basis of the quest is the same for them. Usually the main and side quests consist of either killing the Withered, Lost, or Ancient Guardians, searching chests, killing a mini-boss, or some combination of those 3. I’m not saying that these types of quests are bad, I’m just saying that I think it would be a bit more engaging, adventurous and would feel less repetitive if there was a few more types of quests and a few more types of enemies, or towns, or unique things to search for. I think a mission where you guard an NPC while it goes through corrupted territory so they could safely get back to their settlement would be cool. Or just a quest where you help free a captured settler from pirates or something like that would be unique and engaging. Maybe there’s a quest where a thief from another Faction stole a special artifact from a settlement and you have to go retrieve it. Things like that would really add to the game in my opinion and give it a little more life. Overall, I think more unique styles of quests should be added, some more unique enemies should be added, and more unique towns or camps should be added, and that specific enemies and architectures should be a staple in each territory, and each territory should have some variety to make them all unique. Kind of like how each territory has a different environment, it should also have some unique enemies and buildings.
The second thing I’d like to add is about cosmetics. I do understand that the cosmetics are mainly meant for the store and to be microtransactions, but I think this has caused a missed opportunity. Cosmetics can be a powerful tool to incentivise people to grind and work towards a goal and feel rewarded for meeting that goal. Yeah, it’s cool that NewWorldSweat hit level 200 Mining, but they can’t really show anyone that they hit the max level of Mining in a big way. I think it would be cool if you got a special skin for reaching the max level in each skill, a very special skin for reaching level 200 in all the trade skills and maybe even a skin for reaching level 60. This wouldn’t take away from the store cosmetics at all in my opinion, as these would be in game rewards for their hard work and the store cosmetics would still be there if there was a specific skin that wouldn’t work as a reward but would work perfectly as a store cosmetic. Earnable cosmetics make a game even more fun as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. They are a great way to reward the players and make them feel like there was a purpose for their endless grind to the max level, other than being able to craft better things, which is just the natural progression of almost any game. I think some of the cosmetics that could potentially be added in as earnable rewards are pets, armor skins, weapon skins and mounts (if they eventually get added).
These are my two major criticisms for the game and I believe that adding these features would improve the gameplay and make the game more fun, engaging, and adventurous.
