I’ve killed all of the ghosts in Smuggler’s Cave 4x and have looted all of the chests but still haven’t gotten the quest item (Captain McKeys’ Hurdy Gurdy).
I remember reading something about this quest being broken but it seems like it was 2-3 weeks ago so I’m kind of surprised it’d still be broken.
Is it?
I completed that quest earlier today.
Is that the one on the beach in Mourningdale? If so, I was able to complete it.
Hmmm … well, I killed all of the ghosts outside. I killed the ghost and the elite in the small spur cave with 2 chests in it.
Are there more on the beach somewhere? I killed all that I saw 4x and nothing ever dropped.
This is on Eden if it matters.
Yes. The quest giver is standing on the porch outside of a house a little further north up the beach.
I’m not 100% sure, but if I remember correctly, the item drops from the mobs. The quest giver is right there so maybe try abandoning the quest and try again?
It’s NBD. I was just surprised there’s still issues with it since I’m pretty certain I read about it being bugged weeks ago.
I was just rolling through MD and clearing all the quests that I’d picked up and not completed.
Same issue. Killed plenty of ghosts plus the elite a few times, but quest not showing as being completed.
FWIW, I’d dropped the mission and moved on till I saw your message. When I got home last night I went back, picked it up and went after the ghosts again.
I cleared all the ghosts outside and the first “normal” ghost in the little cave dropped the hurdy gurdy for me. I killed the elite after it just because.
So whatever the issue was when I did it the first time and made the OP it was working for me around 10 PM CST.
Just tried this quest today(Jan. 2nd, 2022). Same problem for me. Have killed all the ghosts in the cave 3 times. No drop.
Update - After 27 kills it finally dropped. Maybe the drop chance is too low?
I’ve done this a bunch, and no drop. 27 kills!!! For someone that’s actually close to this level (I’m a 49)… this is brutal for doing solo!
Needs to be fixed.

EDIT: I just kept killing geists… finally did get it to drop. Compared to other quests; this seems strange. Should be in the chest in the back of the cave?
I can confirm for my character, Geralt of Aetern, on El Dorado, that I got it as a random chance drop.
It took about 10-12 geist kills outside the cave, but basically any of them with the yellow quest marker have a chance of dropping it.
Yes I can confirm the previous posts I have done this quest today (08/01/2022) and took me about 20+ kills to get the item, I think is the first quest I have found with such a drop rate (I am 59 atm)
