Are we ever going to get a Spear and Shield combo? Its one of my favorite historical weapons and I think would fit perfectly into the game. Honestly I would be okay if they just copy the shield tree and just add a spear side to it instead of redoing the entire tree. I think it would be fun and a super cool defensive build. Blocking while stabbing or shield rush doing more damage because of the spear. Theres a lot of ideas and I feel like it would be the most simplistic idea to add.

People have asked about hatchet and shield as well (or more specifically, to decouple shield from sword). I think it would be awesome. I doubt they do it.

I have seen that to, I think there are ways to balance it though, I think hatchet has to good self sustain to be used with a tower shield. (I also dont like the look of a tower shield with a hatchet lol) but I think you could limit hatchet to like round or kite shield. Spear has a ton of cc but it also has other skills that arent self sustaining that still work with a shield. (also again major bias but I love tower shields with spears because its like the Phalanx formation in history although the spear is not long enough but still) I wish they would do it though

I mean shield should be pairable with any 1 hand weapon. Sword should get an overhaul to be “sword only” viable.

That would be in an ideal (new) world, but it seems they chose the different, easier approach.
Though the basics for freely pairing them seem to be there, as you can use the Sword by itself too.
according to one of the lives with dev team from last months, they are planning to add greatsword, then probably weapon x, then daggers… system with pairing shield with another weapons, they said themselves, that this is not priority for them, and it;s not “even on the table” at this moment.
Hard no, since spear shield is number 1 dueling combo in any history battles, I would rather keep my belowed day 1 weapon under radar of meta sheeps.
