ElPenguinoFuego on Valhalla is a pretty top notch melee and I targeted him both those games. He had 0 clump presence. Not his fault, the CC and rend was insane.
Keeping him 40% rended definitely kept him under control let alone all the CC I had.
Shockwaving 5 bruisers then sweeping them all was fun to watch too.
Awesome, I run the opposite, not stacking CON because my server is all light untouchable ones, so I have to take any opportunity to land a skill and fly away, or respawn >_>
I wanna make a medium build with it. I can’t imagine having 30 stamina dodges with Stam recovery and cyclone.
I think light is too squishy to run it with the animation time but medium could definitely hold it.
I have 2 more pieces that I’m going to change and I can sit on my medium GA/WH. Gotta change 1 refreshing to shirking fort and empowering breaker to shirking fort and it’s pretty fucking BiS.
Then I’ll work on the spear/WH medium. I can’t wait.
It’s VERY hard not to take skewer or vault kick, but in heavy I’m not necessarily running people down anyway and Vault Kick is single target, but yeah, like you said.
The first part of your comment is correct. Every weapon should have its strengths and weaknesses.
Spear’s strengths are what make people pick it over everything else in PvE. They should simply make other things better at what they do, so that they are also desirable instead of nerfing the thing that the spear excels at.
Yeah I would really love a fix for coup de grace to have grit. It feels so silly when you get slapped back, mid animation.
If they don’t want to add grit then they should let us dodge cancel the animation at any point, especially since the tracking is still bad and stabs beside the opponent sometimes.
They’re removing monster resistances which should help with this @Ghaunr

Personally, I think spear is in a really good spot and wouldn’t change a thing
It’s receiving some needed nerfs with weapon perks no longer carrying over during weapon swaps which should reduce it’s survivability with fortify perf meaning (theory) Cyclone life steal might make an uptick in usage
I don’t think Cyclone or Perforate should have animation cancel with dodge because it’s a commitment of using at the appropriate time. If all Abilities have the option to cancel, no one will commit to any action and we’ll be playing “feint wars” we see in directional based combat games where everyone spams attack feints for 30 attacks before commiting to one (mount&blade, for honor, chiv,etc)
Recently I got queued with a Spear + WH guy in Arena. Eragone something his name was.

We played couple games together. He said his stat split was 50+ str 200+ dex and 200 con. I think he slightly lacked gs to do 50/250 and he had some mixed numbers but the point is his dmg was nuts I did not expect that.
Not to mention the amount of CC this combo has. Spear is probably the only weapon in the entire game where every skill is usefull in the right composition. Sure some are stronger than others but is a very well-rounded weapon, solid design. It does not require a buff in any shape or form in the current meta.
If you buff it in a way to be a zerg point cap weapon in wars it will be an absolute terror everywhere else.
I played ~10 OPRs yesterday as a heavy 200 con spear. It was fun, spear is strong, yes, bit cyclone is … I had a feeling that I was griefing my team when I was using cyclone, sorry.
TLDR - cyclone is the worst spear ability. One of the most unused abilities in the game.
It’s animation is so bad, by the time it ends my stamina restores in natural way.
3m push back on cyclone - useless in PvE and PvP.
Cyclone hit registration - it feels worse than maelstrom.
Current cyclone that is considered a meme ability for troll builds: slow+leeching+pushback(no stagger)+stamina on hit(which is not helpful as you’re animation locked for ~2 seconds).
Option 3: give it knockback (would be overkill as spear has sweep)
Option 4: give it double damage perk (insatiable GW, incinerate)
Cyclone needs buffs.
