Spear vs Rapier

I really can’t decide between those 2 weapons with my bow, how do i manage?
What’s the pros/cons

Rapier is high skill high reward, spear is a little better rounded, but less potential.

Lots of damage/avoidance vs lots of CC/range.

Rapier for solo PvE 1v1. Great damage, no cc. You may need cc and a bit more range when fighi lvl 60+ enemies.

Spear for solo or party PvE 1vX. Important debuff during expeditions. Cc is also essential for staying alive.

Don’t listen to these guys, Spear is absolutely ridiculous in 1v1 PvP with the guaranteed ability chains it can pull off combined with said abilities having such low cooldowns + a lot of cooldown reduction perks.

Vault Kick into Javelin Throw is massive confirmed Damage and Leg Sweep is also by it’s a massive amount of damage or just a way to stun your enemy and get away.
Sweep can hit more than one player too, so that’s useful if you’re running away and need some more time to move.

As for Rapier, yes, it absolutely out damages the Spear by a long shot and has really good defensive abilities. However, the one fault I see in the Rapier is the lack of CC, as you cannot snipe healers or prevent tanks from using any of their self heal moves.

I don’t know what you’re on about but you can see for yourself.

Vault Kick + Javelin Throw is completely unavoidable if you get hit by Vault Kick. And seeing as how a headshot with Jav Throw refunds 50% of the cooldown, and the cooldowns on the Stuns are relatively low (And can be made lower with perks like Aggressive Maneuvers, and the one for Vault Kick that refunds 30%) you can use this set-up so many times it isn’t even funny.

You also should take into account that Leg Sweep has a lot of rang to it, and seeing as how it can be upgraded to have grit, you can at will try and trade with an attack for your own attack that, when fully upgraded, does 200% confirmed weapon damage, and has a cooldown of around 9 seconds with faction gear on

“why does my sweep go through you, bugged game”

-this dude after you i-frame his CC:

You’re literally saying if you dodge it, you don’t get hit, wtf is that argument 4head?

Rapier is more about timing, evasion, getting in backstab light attacks. Most people use Evade, Riposte, Fleche - Extra dodge, block+stun+counterattack, damaging movement with cancel-able after attack. It’s a good combo, and in my testing at least beats the brakes off of trying to stack Tondo bleeds and the finishing move with Flurry in the mix, but to each their own. Plenty of damage just using lights with the Grace tree imo.

Spear has a number of CD reduction passives in it, that makes it so you can do a knockdown/stun loop with 3 skills infinitely around level 10. Sweep, dodge, Javalin/Jabs, dodge, Vault Kick, dodge, Sweep, dodge, Javalin/Jabs, dodge, repeat. You might have to throw a heavy (with cdr) or two lights (with cdr) in between. It can be great on packs, and can be good on unsuspecting players, but it’s very easy to get out of and if you miss with Vault or one of your other abilities, it throws you off.

I would personally pair the Spear with a Bow. Rapier’s fast attack and Int scaling makes it do lots of elemental damage with an Int scaling gem, paired with the Fire Staff/Ice Gauntlet, and while it makes a great tool to dispatch enemies at close range with, the Spear’s CC chain opens up a lot more opportunities to utilize the Bow’s skillset.

Of course, this is my opinion, but that’s what you asked for

I highly doubt that players can on reaction dodge every single one of the spears abilities every time
Besides, like I said, JAVELIN THROW IS CONFIRMED OFF OF A VAULT KICK, and Vault Kick has a lot of range, and is primarily used as a dodge attack to punish other players for missing!

Every time I encounter a spear guy I just laugh. The weapon is terrible Imao

Spear is pretty easy to avoid, and if i dont want to deal with it i can just moonwalk away
