I keep coming back to spear every iteration. It just feels so satisfying and useful.
The new tracking definitely is the kind of small, targeted buff it needed. My only complaint about spear it that it should have a longer light/heavy attack lunge distance, being a long pointy stick and mostly single target. Makes no sense that Great Axe gets that with a wide multi-target cleave.
Unless polearms are on the roadmap? 
I don’t think we’ll ever see spear on the streamer builds. Not enough damage, not enough crit, not over the top macho in size and skills. It’s just waiting for the right pairing to make a superb support weapon.
One cannot solo the Main questline
As a tank Ive started with typical secondary the War Hammer… then Ive tried Hatchet and ended up with spear … that was in early october. I love that weapon and how you can be agile and move a lot even in heavy armor.
Short cooldowns, long reach, 30% rend all the time, 24-34 frotify every 10 sec for 6 sec … with tower shield spear and sword and right dye colors you can cosplay Roman legionnaire, so I’m sold forever.
In the future I play to try Longsword / great sword if its gonna be good for tanking but I have a feeling its gonna feel like a axe-hammer hybrid.
You also have to take into consideration players didn’t all buy NW off Steam either. Between steam players dropping the game due to the lack of attention to known bug issues from alpha and beta that has yet to even be addressed and those who didn’t buy from steam and still play, those stats aren’t the be all end all by any means

if they dont know that he is an admin then no serious guild would even allow him to join the war with those weapons.

Having a spear at lvl 20 isn’t really an achievement of a hardcore player… I have over 600 hours in this game, had voidbent within a few weeks…
My spear is lvl 0.
Remember, most people like to play certain things… In most MMO’s you can only pick one class and would have to reroll to try a new weapon of choice… This game just happens to let you me multiple classes on the same character 
More like many millions. 900k is the peak of how many was logged in at the same time and not a total of how many have been playing the game.

You can see a decline in engagement with new world though. Two weeks ago people were not playing 12 hours a day either. If your saying each week people log in less than the week before I think that’s the real point. It’s an index number not a player count number. If your point is all players are playing 90% less than they did at launch I think you are right. Are subs down? No there is no subs. Are revenues down? Who knows? Is player engagement down 90%? Yes it is.

Well, before this update, it was super clunky. There was hardly any tracking as compared to other two handed weapons, and the light attack sequence was super lack-luster.
The changes to spear this update make them feel so much better! I love the spear now, and I think it’s in a super great spot. I’m already seeing a ton more of them in OPR.

Time to nerf weapon xp gain. Way to many have leveled up spear. This is what they did with crafting. When they nerfed crafting, a smaller % had maxed out cooking, which i can emagine is the easiest to level, and one people level while leveling another crafting profession. I almost maxed it out, and i didn’t put much efford into it. Atleast not nearly as much as i did with those i actualy tried to level. You don’t really have to go search for the food in the same way. You just get it by playing
Lol I did that when I hit 60 a long time ago. kinda wished I did my skills sooner. But it’s nice to have the weapons all maxed.
3,7 % of 900k is quite a Lot.
Now check how many got to level 60 
Only 10% of players are still playing sooo, basically 37% of active players is probably a closer estimate.
I too enjoy the Spear + Rapier. Would be nice to get more proper skins… Trident is nice, but a halberd ooh…

If the achievements are based on everyone who ever logged into New World at some point, then it will be inaccurate.
They need to be based on a more current sample size of active players, which is much smaller than the launch week populations.
Shh don’t let everyone in on the secret. Spear is the best weapon in the game.
Wait until a streamer puts out a video on it, then everyone will be playing Spear.
