(This isn’t related to the recent change in ability queueing as light attacks have always behaved this way for me.)
Queueing for light attacks for staves has always felt bad to me because the threshold for when a queue’d follow-up will be accepted is too soon after the initial light attack. For instance, if you spam left click on a life staff rapidly three times, you will perform the first light attack and automatically perform a second light attack immediately afterward, leaving you stuck in light attack animations for quite some time when you might really need to do something else after the first light attack in the thick of battle.
Personally, I would like to see the threshold on queueing the second light attack get moved. Right now, it feels like if you left click at almost any moment during a light attack animation, it will queue up a following light attack. I’d rather see the queueing not happen until maybe after half of the current animation is over or maybe even later.
