I’ve been playing bow since release and here are my opinions on the changes announced on the PTR ( jump shot )
As of 1.2.1 bow is still vastly underplayed. The reason? It is by far the hardest weapon to play with the highest skill ceiling. However the issue with the jump shot was the desync from the servers and the shitty hitbox associated with it, that I can’t deny.
On my server of 1.2k people (please tell me how it is on yours) there is only a handful of good bow players that are fighting for the top 10 damage in wars. That is by not dying, playing agressively and landing good shots and rain of arrows. 75% of the players in the top 20 are mages with couple muskets.
That is to say that even with the jump shot it hard to rival mages damage. However I agree that mages should excel in wars and deal more AOE damage.
The unfairness of the jump shot only relies in duels and small scale pvp where it is really really hard to land a hit as a ranged player on a guy jumping.
But in my opinion a simple fix to this would be to have nondogshit servers and good hitbox registration, then you become a living metronome and can be countered solely on your jump timings. AGS probably did not want to fix it that way so the lazy way to approach this is by removing the jump shot and 60% of the damage from bow users.

Sometimes unintended mechanics make the game better (eg. dodgeroll cancel?)
I understand you’ve been dumpstered in duels or frustrated because you could not land a hit but this is solely for the reason stated in the paragraph above.

Those are the players who have never played bow and don’t know how hard it is to land shots consistently (hitbox/server)

The game is filled with casuals not willing to go the extra mile in order to perform well, they just want to partake in casual oprs and chill wars. The ones saying that a bow as of right now doesn’t need jump shot to perform is just a bow user that is not performing right now or fighting for the top spots.
Solutions? Maybe unrealistic but might aswell put this here.
Keep jump shot, fix hitreg on jumping players. This adds a better way for bow players to express themselves but an easy way for a good player to counter them timing the jumps.
Remove the awful input buffering, right now after a shot you have a good 1s before being able to dodge as a medium. By removing that delay and giving us the ability to shoot dodge shoot dodge. This would give a good rate of fire while still being limited by stamina, make the gameplay more profound by sacrificing survivability for damage or the vice versa.
TLDR:
Problem of jump shot relies on hitreg/hitbox
Good bow will never be able to rival good mage in war/invasion
Solution? Fix hitbox / hit reg and keep jump shot to reward good plays and counter plays
Remove delay after a shot to dodge and make the dodge cancel the delay
