Completely agree that looted items should always be bound on pickup. If you don’t engage with crafting you can loot your gear yourself or buy it from crafters who spent a lot for random rolls
State of crafting, how about we remove arbitrary daily limits on the inputs. Bout as lame a system as you can get
I like daily limits, this way you have to prepare yourself in advance to be optimized and not just craft + never come again.

The problem is differentiation. Legendary is no longer legendary and has not been in regards to my gaming history, since vanilla wow. Super rare items were Epic quality and the hardest of hard were Leggo. Miss those days.
Now, we kill a random trash mob and out pops a leggo, its dumb…
I also feel like some of the supporting materials in order to craft ores or leather or planks can only be available thoughts chests. they should be craftable. here is what I was thinking.
in order to create sand flux in crafting you can combine the following material and get it. for example, charcoal, stones → sand flux also in order to create crossweave, you could use fiber and raw hide and for sandpaper, you could use fiber and greenwood and water. also for solvents, you can use water motes and water to create solvents. it will help crafters immensely
Good idea for leveling but that will not fix the problem crafters have at lvl 200 x)
one of the problem i find myself right now is these mats. i spend hours farming for ores, stones, wood, hides and fibers but then I keep running out of these material and then sure I do chest runs but I don’t get nearly a good amount of these materials from chests these days and its just waste of storage space. sure I can use the converter from faction vendor to convert to materials I need but then eventually I run out and then here we are.

I love the feedback in this post. I agree with OP wholeheartedly.
I think at least Legendary/Epic weapons should allow for 2 charms, at the same time, a way to combine charms and produce others would be fantastic.
I do think requiring primary materials is interesting, it makes going back to low level zones a thing, but too much is too much.
As a possible solution: gathering high level materials should give us some primary material. Ex: a bit of iron ore (if only 2 to 5?) in every star metal / orichalcum would be a fantastic addition. The same for the rest.
My view
Giving an ability to re-temper / alter existing kit for others maybe so crafters can alter peoples favourite weapons or improve them making crafters useful to chest /watermark play
The stuff grabbed out of chest runs should be bind on pickup maybe
Making crafting able to choose all perks no random ‘difficulty’ - but if need that eureka feeling have a chance for 1 additional perk as a chance maybe
Agree with several posts here.
I have given up on leveling armoring all together past 150 (to make bags).
It’s more of a money sink than its worth.
I agree that the crafters should be able to determine all or almost all the perks but adding the corresponding mats. The gamble at that level of investment is just not worth it.
Having no dropped gear as it is in some games would make crafters relevant but alienate people who love to farm for their legendary drops so making all of those BoP is a perfect solution imo.
In the current state of the game, whatever you do feels pointless due to reward imbalance.
If you make all drops BOP you take the Watermarks grinders the possibility away to make money by selling drops if they find something worth.
I still remain with my proposal that crafters should get the possibilty to upgrade items or to random reroll perks by using additional ressources. Giving the possibility to choose all perks for crafters is way too strong.
Edit: Also to let you know I have arkane crafting 200 and see how hard it is to roll good perks. But I also grinded watermarks and see how hard it is to get good drops. In my opinion both are equal. Crafting need more materials but watermarks need more time.
