State of Weapon Balance and in the Feb 2 PTR Balance Changes PART ONE: Rapier

do people not know you can easily dodge riposte or something. most people i PVP dont complain about it a single bit because they dont get hit by it and it puts me in a bad position when they do dodge it.

the only ones i see crying are terrible PVP players that blame lost on Rapier when all they do is literally left click

Are you in full pve light gear with like 500gs? lmao. You would have to show some evidence where a single musket player 3 shotting you while you wearing your atleast 600gs full pvp set and have the 100 const. Even then its just simply not possible to have 3 consecutive headshot on someone who constantly running around and dodging and lagging and abusing the insane desync. You have to be afk or really bad who just run in a straight line to receive 3 headshot in a row.

riposte should have just a bit longer cooldown. may 16 or 18 sec.

You sir are an idiot.

  1. Riposte is a 360 skill. I can’t even hit you form behind
  2. Riposte hits everyone in melee range with you, not just the person who hit you
  3. It has no animation at all and cancels any other animation like a weapon swap… therefore I can never count on hitting you without you riposting u less you just riposted… you can instantly switch weapon riposte my skill
  4. Cooldown is way too f short. Many awesome skills cds are 30 second like grav well.

It appears the devs agreed on the points about cooldown. I’m eager to see how the weapon performs now.

Rapier

We’re seeing a lot of players taking rapier as a secondary weapon for it’s defensive capabilities over its offensive ones. While we expect this behavior in a dual weapon system, we currently feel like it’s a bit too effective at running away. As a result we are increasing the cooldown of skills in the Grace tree. To offset the longer cooldown of Evade we are swapping the upgrades Crescendo and Breathe In so that players using Evade offensively have better access to cooldown reduction.

  • Riposte
    • Increased cooldown from 12s → 18s.
  • Evade
    • Increased cooldown from 6s → 12s.
    • Swapped the positions of the Crescendo and Breathe In upgrades. As a result of this change, points in this tree will be refunded and need to be respecced.
  • Fleche
    • increased cooldown from 17s->20s.

Sick. Rapier crutch players absolutely BTFO’d.

0 agreement - game should be balanced around highly skilled pvplers.
I agree - its too strong, it needs 2 adjustments - overall CD should be slightly higher, CD reduction after executing it should be 10%.

Thats it - you can predict it easy, you can dodge it easy - I have 0 issues against rapier players, without this weapon bow and musket is dead.

Seems like then maybe bow and musket are not in a good place, then?

Bow used to be the mobile weapon, now its less mobile than a musket with the forced slow after ADS

When we ll see PART 2 … i am waiting so much for it continue like that

clearly not - bow and musket should not provide you with hypermobility, thats the off weapons job. Rapier is needed for that, with spear you can only go medium and play bow more or less as the off weapon and spear the main.

rapier is the way to go to get a chance in staying ranged against the gap closers of other weapons or the simple fact that people can run at you and your attacks will allow them to catch up cause you stand still.

bow is fine so far, musket needs a redesign of the trap, it should be aimable to trap someone - so you can see the place the trap will drop off and you have a range to decide the positioning. If this is implemented musket is fine.

rapier is a high skill cap duel weapon, not a secondary weapon u fool

its a secondary weapon for nearly all comps.

lifestaff/rapier - used as escape only
bow/rapier - used to escape and setup with riposte rend if you get the counter play, else its just distance gain and 1 heavy attack for t. rend.
musket - only escape - you dont even go aggressive with 50 con and you use riposte stun for a trap setup
fire/rapier - blabla

high skill cap duel weapon - I dont even get the point its not used as the main weapon, I define main weapon as the weapon to manage the core aspect - dmg or heal. Rapier is not the source for this.

These changes are really over the top.
I do agree the cooldowns should be increased, but this may be a bit much. Fleche can be changed to 25 seconds, evade to maybe 8 or 10. Riposte however needs to be changed in various ways mechanically speaking. A simple reduction in cooldown is not enough because you can run reduction talents and the change is circumvented.

Repostle probably needs some changes like it only stuns a single target, or its only whats in a 90 degree arc in front of the player.

the problem is rapier is not made for healers, ofcourse it will be secondary in that case for fuck sake, but I use bow as secondary, trust me

the guilty of the AWFUL nerfs currently on PTR.

BIZARRE

I agree with the changes.

The whole reason people use rapier boils down to mobility. Riposite isnt op at all and half the time good players dodge or it doesnt hit at all. Range uses fleche in combination with la rolls to outrun 20 people. Everyone else uses it bc melee mobility is horrid. Pvp plays out like a 3 stooges show. Melee hits once then the light armor guy roll/fleche away into the night. This is only gonna get worse with the new patch changes to dodge especially with light armor. Wrong weapon abilities keep getting nerfed due to low skill players complaining about minor stuff vs the core problems of pvp. That being movement and the ability to to leave combat at will. Bugs aside ofc.

this is where the rapier nerf comes from, I feel even more wanting to play the rapier and make you gnaw even more

I accurately articulated my opinions on rapier’s problems. Many, including the developers, agreed. I’m happy with the changes that have been implemented on the PTR and am eager to see how they play out on live. The rapier may need further changes but we’ll see.
