Steam Deck Black Screen after play

Hi! Want to play on my steam deck but I’ll t won’t work. At first I got a connection error. Now I got past it but when it starts loading the screen goes black like it’s gmloggong in then the fan dies down and it goes no where. And nothing happens. Anyone have any luck getting steam deck to work? I have seen all these work around like disable internet power management but nothing has worked for me. I spent all last two days trying

Hello @daveleibach87, Welcome to the forums!

I am sorry to hear that you’re having issues running the game on the Steam Deck, currently New World is not supported for the device.

Hope you have a great rest of your day!

Tried it today and it worked. You may have to wait quite a while for the blackscreen to go away.

Can you give a more detailed report regarding proton version etc?

Thank you for responding. I have let it run and it either goes to error connection screen or closes down… I am using proton expiermental . I have tried both steam mode and desktop mode. I have tried 2 different wireless ibternent connections as well as a hotspot. I also tried micro SD install as well as regular.

I tried GE-proton 29 today and it let me log in. I think the standard proton version and experimental should also work.

Note that there has been a bug recently where you need wait on the black screen until it gives an anti cheat error, then immediately try to log in again without closing the game.

You also need to install the anti cheat manually if you haven’t already.

Ok I think I finally got it to sorta work. I had to reinstall the easy anti cheat proton pack, then move the game to the SD card from the SSD, then delete the proton data, then verify file integrity, get in the game, set the settings to low and cap fps at 30, and you’ll have to essentially log in twice since the first one thinks you’re suspicious.

@Fostus does new world support Linux gaming?

It worked when I used 29!!! I love you !!!

They tolerate it, since they explicitly enabled the anti cheat to work on linux. This is a manual action that has to be taken explicitly, and it’s documented when this changed for New World.
But I don’t think it’s officially supported. Any linux specific bugs will be left for Valve or the anti cheat maker to fix.
It may become officially supported at some point, or it may remain in limbo for a while longer.

Hello Aeternum dwellers,

I’ve been watching this thread and didn’t want it left without an official moderator response. I am glad to see you working together and sharing tips to get this to work on the Steam Deck so kudos for that teamwork. Unfortunately and directly from Amazon Games, we do not presently support any platform other than PC nor any operating system besides Windows.

Best of lucks and see you in Aeternum! :wolf:

Just an update, the latest proton updates seems to let the game run without a hitch. Now to figure out the controls.

I may have spoken too soon, now it’s just crashing on load in :frowning:

So it turns out it launches, and then it looks like it crashes, and then you’ll just have to hit the steam button and resume game. Not 100 percent, but so far so good. I fixed up the control scheme and got a few kills.
