@Castlerock: This TL;DR is me agreeing with you and adding my two cents
@everyone: For those already looking for your dobby socks so you’re free:
As an old fart, I still remember playing Space/King/Police Quest on a monitor that came in Nyquil green, and it was 2D and nothing compared to today. For those that can afford to pay to play and want to risk the initial ups and downs, go for it. If not, or you want to wait a bit to see what happens, go for it. I am genuinely disappointed that I waited this long to begin playing the game at all. Having played WOW, RIFT and others, this is a game i really enjoy. So my hot take is this:
Instead of blindly dismissing a new idea, try it and critique it and provide constructive feedback. Or don’t. Until or unless it becomes the enema you can’t do crap without, let’s see what happens.
So…I’d be careful for what you ask for. Because according to this data, New World hemorrhaged the vast majority of it’s player base with only .95% of the players remaining (less than 1%).
I’d probably not go out of my way to suggest others leave the game because they choose to criticize the product they purchased as paying customers.
The only spoiled child here is you because you can’t critically think enough to have a conversation without inserting your weak insults.
Somehow I don’t believe you. Write me two lines of code that generate a simple random number and print it out. Then I might believe you. Not about the company though. I don’t buy that for a second. Especially not with your childish attitude.
I mean computer random isnt the same as the real deal but there is simple code to do what I asked. If random didnt exist in coding you wouldn’t be able to play NW which is tons of nested randoms.
Ok you are free to think whatever you like, i rly dont care tbf.
For your ask of prove this is thin. Anyone can use google to do a line of code?
So the fact you ask me for this is just showing me you have 0 clue about coding, A forum would never prove to me if someone is right or wrong or lying. There is simply no way to prove it here without sharing information during to GDPR aint allowed.
Actually just wanted to see if you would waste your time googling something, but no, I don’t believe you. I don’t believe anything anyone tells me on the internet. Just like I expect you wouldnt believe anyone else either.
It doesnt really matter because its moot. People dont need game development experience to know what they like in gaming. Nor do they need it to request features. Nor do they need to develop the feature before requesting it. If you, as a dev, cant figure out what people want out of leaderboards then you are a crappy dev.
My guess is that the dev team knows exactly what attracts people and what people want to see out of leaderboards. They tried to put their own twist on it. Thats what dev teams do. They take popular features and put their own twists on them. Otherwise all games would be the same.
It’s almost as though telling them things we don’t like let’s them know how they can make the game better. Almost like they want to hear our feedback, listen to it and make changes to make the community want to keep playing and even get more people coming back.
Quite a lot of people used that door you’re referring to, so I’m pretty sure AGS would prefer those people remaining to stay and tell them about things we don’t like.
What is stoping them from making leaderboards for:
A Kill leaderboards / DMG dealt
A Tanking / DMG Absorbed
A Healer done
It’s a team based game? YES
So why not a leaderboard for OBEJETIVES captures?
Any performance can be measured… it does not fall on the player to figure this things out… It’s the SOLE responsability of the developer… and as i said previously… they don’t need to be some sort of “genius” that can think of all these things on their own… they can copy-pasta it from BETTER and SMARTER individuals that already figured out the FORMULA…
Imagine if every car in the world tried to redesign the WHELL… you would only have cars that costs 50-100k on the market… and the middle class (and lower) would never have access to any form of technology, if everyone tried to make their own things rather then learn from the experience of others.
Are you complaining about people pointing out valid criticism? Many of which have made the game better? Simply dismissing the people pointing out the problems in the game is more toxic IMO than people who actually care about the game and want to see it improve and get to a “very good place”. If you don’t like what people say on the forum then “there is the door”, you can leave, no need to just dismiss “everyone” like you blanketly have done on this post.
I disagree with you. Most MMO developers know what leaderboards are. Be scared of gear management because they might not know what players mean? Maybe the devs dont know what people mean when they request mounts? How about when they requested arenas? How about swimming. Everybody knows what leaderboards are. If they are developed poorly then that is the fault of the developers.
You can say that about any content or feature. Its up to the developers to create something people will universally like or at least most people would like. Otherwise nothing would get added.
You want to put this on the player and not the developer but you are saying everyone wants something different. So what would it matter if each person described perfectly what they wanted? They would still all like something different.
