Greatsword is an amazing weapon that has several mechanics with blocking.
So nothing more natural than allowing perks like “Sturdy Fortification”
to be added to the weapon to boost its mechanics.

It would come at the cost of one of your damage perks, so I can see that being pretty cool. Would make for some awesome tank Great Sword Combinations like Sturdy, Sturdy Fortification, and maybe Trenchant Recovery. Also, the scarcity of Brown Tonic would make such a GS a hot commodity.

Yes, you’re right!
You give up a damage perk to have this “sturdy fortification” so by itself, it’s already a way to balance.
