Surge of Popularity | Ice Gauntlets

I’m not here to complain about the Ice Gauntlets… I think you Ice Gauntlet users deserve your fun after being useless for a few days with those pesky bugs! However, with the fix to resilience and the Ice Gauntlet, I have noticed a rampant surge of popularity with the weapon. My last 10 Outpost Rushes have been literally ALL Ice Gauntlets, Fire Staffs, and the occasional few Life Staffs. Even with Heavy Voidbent and ALL 2.5% Magical Reduction gems I am still getting absolutely TRUCKED. What is your take on this if you’ve experienced the annoyingness of the Ice Gauntlet? Is it warranted? Do they do too much damage? What about the CC and utility, is it too long?

Because AoE cannot be blocked and there’s a lack of cleanse options in general.

In a recent duel with a friend who is IG/FS, he only hit me with 3 direct attacks.
Almost all of his damage on me came from DoTs I couldn’t block the application of with a Shield and placing AoEs under my feet that also cannot be blocked.

So DoTs and unlockable damage galore and it’s all AoE.
Add to this the fact that you can’t tell if an AoE effect is friendly or hostile until you stand in it.

This is why magic is rampant now.
AoE is just as effective on single targets as it is in multiple target situations.

Ice shower is just too strong. It lasts too long and does too much. Gravity well you can use gap closers to get out of it

But ice shower has the 1 second root, so whenever I use my gap closer it just teleports me back

Getting caught in this one skill is pretty much death

Reduce the frostbite duration and make the root into a stun please

Seems to be a common theme around the PvP side of things. Lack of X or lack of Y. It would be interesting to see more options to “counter” certain play styles or mechanics. It is really boring to play against 10-15+ Ice Gauntlets and not be able to move because they are all pegging you with Heavy Shots, resulting in a never-ending agony of standing still.

As a side note, It is funny to see how no one is also complaining about healing being broken now that they fixed the resilience bug as well.

Now, I read a post regarding the issue where you can’t tell if a skill is friendly or enemy. AGS said it would be pushed back to focus on more important things, which I agree with.

My post really just boils down to my frustration dealing with the Ice Gauntlets. There are just too many of them to deal with! Everywhere you step is a Blizzard… Everywhere you look there is an Ice Shower… As a Heavy Armor user, I am just appalled how I am dying so quick even with these magic reduction gems AND Voidbent Heavy Armor. If I swap to Light Armor I feel the same thing would occur but just a quicker death.

It seems the Ice Shower ability coupled with the talent that roots you for 1 second when using a Heavy Attack is just simply too much in the meta. Maybe it will take time to adapt. Maybe it deserves a nerf. Who knows, I guess time will tell.

I have similar feelings to your post. Ice Shower definitely feels too strong at the moment. Or rather, the talent that roots a target when using a Heavy Attack. That root lasts for 1 second and you can continuously do it and time abilities to keep overlapping that root. There needs to be a diminishing return of some sort to limit this rooting capability.

The two most overpowered abilities in the game are Ice Shower and Gravity Well. And Ice Shower is about 50% more busted than Gravity Well. It is overpowered because in addition to the root you also get slowed and can’t dodge. In addition to this you also have the combo of Heavy Freeze locking you in the Shower for the full duration.

Ice Storm is not so much the problem, but rather in conjunction with Ice Shower it is just strong.

Finally add in Entombed and you get a weapon that has S+ control, S+ Single Target, S+ AoE, and S+ Survivability.

Ice Shower just needs to be reworked. It is broken and the rubberbanding/desync is just frustrating. Just change it to a wider wall that blocks enemy projectiles and slows enemies that pass through it.

Entomb just needs to have the HP reduced by 20%.

Good take on the changes. Gravity Well and Ice Shower are definitely the strongest out of any ability in terms of raw utility.

Ice Shower, in my opinion, should just be a slow. The slow, root, and the removal of dodging add up to be an overloaded ability. It is why it is a staple of any Ice Gauntlet build right now. The only thing I disagree with here is the ability to block enemy projectiles. This would cause more fuss with other ranged users, and have walls of Ice Gauntlets covering points to prevent any ranged abilities/damage in wars.

However, the removal of rooting to increase the slow would fix a lot of the issues people face and allow for a lot more counterplay. As it stands now, there is no counterplay. There is only one cleansing ability which is from the Life Staff that you have to aim at a teammate, so you can’t even use it on yourself. You literally can’t walk up to an Ice Gauntlet user or you die. Magic users enjoy your time while it lasts. You are in your glory days!
