with the adding of the VG i feel like tanks are even more worthless in wars and pvp. along with the 250 and 300 con perks being … lets say hmm F in useless. i feel like the 250 or 300 perks need to be reworked and sword and shield need some love. like i know they shouldn’t be op but like i seen like one other guy running a shield in pvp in the last month and all the heavy users r just brawler builds. Then the tank gems r a waste so i either have to have 2 different weopan for both slots with different gems or just loose out with a perk for them. then were not even the usefull in invasion cuss like only like 1/8 of the mobs r tuantable, and its more on damage then tanking. i might be the only one who feels this way but it just like im more and more useless in most content as a tank.
There’s a lot wrong with this game, but playing as a tank in wars really made me hate it.
the million area dot ticks make the 250 on cool down 100 percent and the void g has an attack that goes though blocks
100% agree. Sword and Shield or even investing in Constitution is borderline useless.
like some one has to see how its working, i never see any posts on it and like maybe im the one missing something
ive been playing with vg in the test servers for a while now and from what ive been seeing a vg can shred a shield and sword tank so easy, they dont have dps to knock down the health regen of a vg user enough to make a difference especially with the right vg perks. Sword and shield need a damage buff for sure
i was thinking they could change the 250 perk to block stability and the 300 perk to 30 percent damage mit under 20 percent health
Agreed, i’m currently on 490 cons and feels like im on 300, they could improve stats over 300, giving things like poise, reduce to knockback, reduce stamina damage, etc… Cause playing war as tank is so sad nowdays, war hammer is literally hitting me 4k damage, and i have full voidbent, 590 gear score, all i do on war is tank as long my shield resist which means 2 armor breakers from warhammer, then it’s rip.
Tank was always worthless in pvp. Gear doesn’t matter in pvp. In pvp you were never a tank.
Don’t go 490 Con, I tank with 200 in OPR pvp and even that is too much. The only reason you take con in pvp is if you don’t have a tower shield, if you take any other shield in pvp it is unfortunately not worth taking at all. Full heavy, Tower shield, and sturdy grip should get you to 80% stability, and if you can get sturdy perk on your shield you can block loads of hits. Combine with shield rush weaken and shield bash with the invigorating bulwark upgrade, most enemies I face tank simply give up beating on my shield and I have done my job. Then just jump in front of another and do the same. Of course shield rush in ptr is getting a nice buff so that weaken stays on longer, which weakness should also affect stamina damage your shield takes.(granted it will be misicule)
Luckily also the shield skins all work with any type so you can look like you have a cool kite shield while having the stability of a tower shield which I love. Here is my build
I’m not talking about pvp, i’m talking about GVG, wars, etc.
For wars it’s important because defensive formation gives 30% reduc on point, makes other people to tank enough damage to survive, but nowdays meta is full against tank because everyone is heavy, that warhammer it’s ridiculous against shield.
Im currently at 20.300 HP but it doesn’t matter if armor breaker from warhammer literally destroys my shield and breaks my armour.
I’m not saying i cannot tank on wars, i can, i can handle over 5 people without healer, inside healer i can handle over 20 easily, EXCEPT if they use that warhammer skill, that thing is broken against us, tanks.

Lol, it is supposed to be. When you see those attacks coming you either dodge or eat it, and then shield up again. Hammer is literally the only anti shield weapon in the game. Not much you are supposed to do about it.
I disagree, there’s what, 4 weapons that breaks the shield with 2 heavy attacks? great axe, hatchet, war hammer, lances?
But that skill from warhammer is so good against shield, it breaks 35% of your armour, destroy your stamina, gives you 15% rend which means you take more damage, take that with wrecking ball with literally no cd, breaking even more armour, besides war hammer has shockwave which if im not mistaken is the only skills that stuns and breaks your guard instantly, not even shield bash (which for me is the one that makes more sense to break guard) breaks, but shockwave does, and stuns.
This warhammer is way of, and it’s getting even better, probably we will see less and less sword and shield players on wars, probably just 1 per tag because of defensive formation.
Who needs a shield anyway when you can block virtually indefinitely against light melee attacks with an Ice Gauntlet lol
Ice gauntlet doesn’t block ranged attacks AND it only takes a maximum of 15 stamina per hit to your mana so… it doesn’t actually work as you think because if the attack hits for 30 stamina or 70 stamina, your stamina still takes damage.
Sword and shield isn’t meant to beat a substain class like void gauntlet. Sword and shield is a pure tank. Your only job is to get in there cc and hold aggro/attention. It’s almost like people here never played a tank before. A group of good Sword and shield tanks with war hammer can really disrupt the backline.
60%+ of the attackers are melee, and if I see AoE or heavy attack incoming I obviously dodge or simply move away, and yet most people keep spamming light attacks expecting to get trough it. IG has the base block stability of a round shield which can be further boosted by wearing heavy armor, making most light attacks actually refilling your stamina instead of draining it (you will still loose mana, but your mana regen is not hampered by this effect and you can pop mana pots).
My statement was against light melee attacks, not against any type of attack, and I do know how it works.
Then you know that if you gain stamina back while blocking it is actually a bug as well?
How is it supposed to be a bug? High block stability vs light attacks and a stamina refilling effect.
Heavy attacks break the block in 1 hit even from 1 handed weapons (as it should be).
