Tank´s in PvP - Can we save them?

I dont see where i said he would win anywhere.

At the moment, 3 good players put a tank in the ground before he can get his cooldowns back, often with or without a healer. Why?

Tanks are squishy. They are only tanky with a shield raised. That is bad design.

At all other points in time, they are a low dps heavy melee that is totally inferior to hammer/ga in tankiness. That is bad design.

Blocking is not good enough and the game isnt designed for it to be.

I agree with you I was just clarifying a point. I’ve seen the argument made that a particular build should 1v3 so I was just saying that a tank should at least be able to absorb the dps and survive. What changes to stamina would you make with sns?

m8…because you CANT have the survivability of a tank and do similar damage as a bruiser/dps thats bonkers, that would give you god mode basicly and has failed EVERY time other mmos have done it because you would create a tank meta where everyone would eb forced to play it and nothing would die or it would take ages and severla people to get one player down, its awfull.

THAt is the main reason why tanks ultimatly dont work in mmo pvp, specially in a game like NW where cc and debuffs are very short to have a build focus mainly on them, because you could argue that you could have a tank, with subpar damage, but outstanding utility but in the current state there is not enough utility for it to eb outstanding so that leaves you with 2 routes, damage or survivability and those, for the sake of balance, have to run seperatly.

Honestly, that is tough. Sns is, imo, poorly designed because block is poorly designed. It works great for arrows but melee hits smash it and put you at risk of becoming too vulnerable after a block break.

Maybe tie something to getting your block broken? Like a heal, aoe rend application, maybe stagger from your shield breaking? Put it on an appropriate cooldown but make it something substantial.

Or just steal the greatsword blocking perk and make it a weaken instead of rend + less stam damage?

In a game that allows you to quickly swap stats and change your spec, why do people keep thinking one class should be viable in all scenarios?

What do you want a tank to do? Why do all MMOs have this issue? Is it an issue?

Shield & Sword is extremely strong already right now. If you want to buff the tank spec, then first remove its capability to be in an assassin build.

Nobody asked for that either.

If you seriously have a problem with that or disagree that they are extremely low value perks, i dont really know what else to say. Nobody takes them. There is a reason. That reason is they are bad.

No, go make your separate nerf post about assassins if you think they are too strong. This is a post about buffing tanks.

If you have a problem with sns being too versatile (this is a joke btw. Find me the sns user who effectively switches between tank and assassin in war and link me his vods) you can make your own thread too.

You cannot buff tanks without buffing assassins. All of the amazing perks carry over to them.

You would have to rebuild the entire shield and sword tree to get what you want.

  • The issue is not that tanking is useless, you clearly take way more reduced the damage and can provide CC lock down on a single target.

It could be that the real problem is that the current game modes do not favor a tank build (Even if you rebuild shield & Sword).

Thus, AGS needs to create a PvP mode with an objective that allows tanks to thrive in.

Stopped reading at “cant buff tanks without buffing assassins” because that was just totally untrue. If thats what youre worried about, it is easily solved by buffing 250 con and 300 con to be useful for mitigation.

The problem I see with rend is not what the tank can then do but what the surrounding players can then take advantage of when the rend is applied. I like the idea though that there could be a mechanic activated when block is broken.

m8, do you dunerstand that buffing the survivability of the 300 con woudl still leave tanks worthless in pvp?

sure you woudl survive longer…but daamge would be bad and so would utility, so im failing to see whats the point of it?

you want betetr survivability, sure…btu that aloen wont make tanks viable, and sicne you cant get mroe survivability while getting mroe damage/utility then its a fairly easy assumption that even if they buffed 300 con tnaks would still be pretty pointless, so why do epople WANT that im not understanding it.

If you think buffing 250/300 con will improve your ability to sit still and stare at the enemy, then good luck.

To bad you don’t realize the #1 problem that negates tanks right now is that all rend is way overtuned.

Heres a thought that completely counters your snarky comment:

250 con: Now reduces the amount you can be rended by 20%. Rend cap is now 10% on tanks instead of 30%.

How about you just swap your stats and play S&S+Hatchet, S&S Great Sword, S&S+… anything to dominate. Adding additional work to something that does not need it is why combat in this game is in a appalling state.

If your play style is “Run into PvP like a dungeon and tank”, then the only thing that can save you is a new PvP mode that gives you a similar objective. I am sure the new activation pots will help you focus on movement more :stuck_out_tongue:

Ive played the game with you (yes, you! You have a memorable name) a decent bit and can tell you:

  1. You arent the best
  2. The best player i know still isnt good enough to be toxic

So stop acting like tank players are brainless death farmers. Better players than you have made it work, AGS just needs to realize they buffed damage through the roof with no thought to people staying alive.

Also i dont even play sns tank so youve just been completely off base the whole time. You can want something buffed without personally benefitting from it.

Even if they add your change, you will be back on here in the next day. The real issue to invest in right now is:

  • Base Weapon Damage (Particularly split attribute weapons)

  • Rend (It is % based and needs to be a flat amount)

  • Crt multiplier on thrust weapons

  • Empower bonuses from weapon skill trees

  • Skill animations (i.e., defenders resolve can instant cast with a icon animation over the players head)

Side Comments: The int and focus perks are by far worse than the 250/300 con perks

I am at my wits end of seeing players and devs waist the limited development time to never tackle the harder and more important questions.

Also:

Int 250 is strong. You would know this if you played it.

Focus 250 exists and has marginal value. It needs a buff too.

Con 250 is one hit every 60 seconds at max health. Just useless.

Why would you change rend? Genuine question

There are two major issues with REND

  • Duration (How easy is it to cleanse the de-buff?)
  • % based amount

For example, armor breaker is a 20% rend for 10 seconds. The duration is just wild and is a death sentence to anyone in heavy. Percent based means the heavy person will be disproportionately affected by armor drop offs.

It is easy stack up to 30-50% rend when considering all perks and weapons

This is why your rend cap reduction idea is actually great.

The heavier/tankier you are supposed to be, the less likely it is that you are able to run away to avoid the extra damage. Duration reduction doesnt work because that stuff gets spammed and again, you cant really run.

Easy fix - you cant run (still) but its not as bad.
