Tank´s in PvP - Can we save them?

That’s an issue with new world, with any weapon a tank might use. Those weapons are just so much better in a light/bruiser hands :joy:

Im pretty sure most tank players like myself just want to be viable again for war´s etc.
Atm we are melting more or less like light players just that we hit like a wet noodle and have the movement speed of shattered mountain.
No one want´s tanks to be demi gods or unkillable, but durable in fights

My man said BB/IG is a tank. If a ranged INT build is getting more fortify, survivalbility, and peel that kind of proves the point. Dunnit?

Limit fortification to 20% and add 250 or 300con perk that allows it to be at 50%. With that change we can increase hp from single 1CON by a little and tanks would be rlly tanky when using foritification builds.

Limit fortify on light, limit haste on heavy. Increase access to weakens. Reduce access to empower.

The main issue is how Empower/Weaken and Fortify/Rend work. They’re all sliders, however there’s more ways to grant empower in game than weaken, and Fortify is more efficient in damage absorption in light.

Also the 27% armor penetrate for backstabs on some weapons is insane on heavy armored tanks.

  • some Rend and youre dead withing seconds.
    i would be totally fine with hitting like a wet noodle when i can tank more dmg and have somewhat utility for the team.

Backstab is fine imo, shouldn’t be letting someone get behind that shield as a tank anyways.

BTWs. 300 Con Heavy GS full defensive tree with trenchant recov is the tankiest I’ve ever been, and it’s kind of sad because it’s not a shield and GS is still better in the hands of a bruiser running onslaught lol

Running it with VG for scream and oblivion to be useful for groups.

Yeah GS is amazingly fun tho in defiant stance imo :smiley:
But even then Guard Point often gets you into trouble with too many enemys around.
You playing GS on INT then or just go 200 STR and let VG only be for utility ?

I looked at INT. Might be somewhat viable with surgeons ring and atunement, but overall speccing strength is probably better.

VG is just utility, you don’t wanna be swapped of GS for long.

Going to have a hot take here and surely will get a ton of hate for it in this thread full of copium, but…

…Tanks do not belong in PvP. Sure in OPR you can hold up your cute little Towershield on the point and feel like you’re actively contributing, but gameplay wise Tanks are just incredibly boring. It takes forever to kill them, They take forever to kill anybody else and overall they just don’t add anything to PvP combat that makes fights more interesting or engaging while slowing down the general gameplay a lot.

New World PvP is the most fun when it’s fast paced and people die reasonably quick (which doesn’t mean they need to die in 2-3 hits by the way). Nobody enjoys the game more because you want to live out your unkillable juggernaut fantasy.

That is strictly your opinion. You can’t say a build doesn’t belong in PVP, especially one of the trifecta.
Not everyone wants to live out your unstoppable, bloodthirsty, berzerker fantasy. Or your divine savior and healer fantasy. Or your squirrelly uncatchable ranger, or your wize and powerful mage.

Not gonna hate somebody just cause they have a different opinion.
But i really lik extended fight´s alot more, as it factors in CD management and you also are not only using skills to win or loose a fight. As atm it feels like whoever spams 3 skills the fastest or dodges the other skills wins. No real need to normal or heavy attacks

We’re discussing how to make a build viable, and all your doing is saying ‘Nope, I dun like it. Wanna kill stuff.’

Wanna know the glorious part of new world? Every build that is well thought out and skill points executed correctly is supposed to viable. That’s what balancing is supposed to do.

bb, vg, ig, ga etc all do what a traditional tank does, you just what to have a shield skin in your hand mate it doesn’t really make sense (you could say a group fortify tank skill is missing but since it works like a slider with rend being able to rend is at least pretty similar)

They all do it with less con and more damage too, and 3/4 of those are Intel scaling weapons. GA is an issue. I don’t get it with you people. Why is everyone fine with GA being the go to weapon for damn near everything, but you got a problem with people wanting S/S to be better at tanking? :yawning_face:

tbf i think if an attribute is never taken above 200 something´s off with the attribute perks and that should be changed to make it viable.
There are alot of builds out there with different weapons and scaling and attributes but basicly none of them use above 200 con for a reason

This is your opinion, but no hate at all.
I agree on 1 thing. Being just a slow moving punching bag is not enough for tanks to get an identity. They must bring something else to the table.
Tanks are supposed to be sturdy, but they just melt fast.
So they need to bring something special, like buff or debuff or both.
All in all, for the ones that likes the class, they need to have fun too.
Not everyone like to be a fast paced killer :grin:
