Tanking in game not hold aggro

Sword and shield combo just dont have enough abilities to grab all mobs unless using taunt what has 45 sec cd. Bossfights are ok and can hold aggro, but adds and trashmobs those are too spread all over to pick them up. Going dps spec bec tanking is not enjoyable.
Why tanks has not something implosion or something what pulls mobs to you? And i mean S&S not Great axe.

as a main tank myself (Sword&Shield + Lifestaff) I can understand that it is sometimes a bit frustrating, when your taunt abilities are on cooldown and you aren’t able to get the aggro of mobs.

However, there are currently 2 taunt abilities, which are totally enough in my opinion.

Maybe try using a higher Carnelian Gem (Taunt Gem) to produce more aggro in general.

Before I go into a useless comment on “learn to play”, I’d rather learn something about your build. What’s your secondary weapon? And what do you use to build & hold aggro?

there are 2 points u must understand.
1º - You are the tank, but there’´s no need to get ALL the mobs by yourself, that was a big mistake in lots of mmos, where dps just hit from the back while they can be watching tv. U are the tank, grab the threats not every single mob. (there’s no need at all).

2º - Are u wearing “cornalines”? (I think that’s the name) because wearing one of those at lvl 2 (200%) is enought to agro any mob just with 1 or 2 basic attacks.

I’m main tank, and i have to say that is not only fun, its hard and complex. but I have not a single bad point at the state of tanking with s&s.

Once you get a 200% + Carnellian gem, life changes as a tank big time. I cant keep them off me even when im not attacking mobs. People who are running away from mobs who run past me are basically handing them off to me. I literally look at a mob wrong while its fighting other people and it looks at me, and says “that guy… ya **** that guy, lets get em.” while i’m mining my iron node like …looks around confused… what did I do???

@Lucifear You also have the option to gem threat into your gear. That could be another solution to your issue.

Yeah i use carnelian gems in 2 weapons what i had. Sword from Amrine what has 200% agro gem in it. Also kiteshield what has bigger block rate than round shieldt.
My lvl is 30 and gearscore 350ish. Build i use is same as in this video.

I just got my hammer, so i can get something stuns or something on after get weapon mastery points. Before that i had a hatchet full berserk build what has 3 sec immortality if i use whole stamina to blocking or dodging. Last night in Amrine i did tank last boss and adds in one place without kiting. everything was easy. But trash is the problem only.

Was thinking also, if my teammates make so big dps that i loose aggro bec that? And i dont like them pulling for me, bec mobs are hard to grab, especially those ghosts like, its so unpredictible moves.

This is a prominent issue. However, there are more important stuffs for the devs to work on right now.

I carry three weapons…all with tier 3 carnelian gems in them…sword and shield, hammer, and hatchet…and taunt skills trained up on all three. If there’s a bunch of trash in a pull I’ll use S/S and hatchet…when I want allllllll the mobs I’ll pop berserk and I get them. If one slips away, since it’s a gemmed hatchet, a rending throw will probably annoy it enough to get it to come back. Hammer works pretty well there too with shockwave if I’m so inclined and hammer’s particularly handy if I want the utility to be able to just knock mobs off of a healer.

If things get crazy on a trashmob overpull I’ll bounce into S/S again and pop Defiant. Boom, I have the agg again…much swinging of gemmed blades and I’ll typically keep the agg. Shield bash just in case I need to bust a mob off the healer.

And as @JC.exe points out…man once you get to the T4 Carnelians things realllllly change for the better - looking forward to those soon.

DPS need to do their part too though - and wait a moment before they go HAM on trash mobs.
