this anlone would make tanks usefull in pvp. think you would have to focus them or get them gone or they will be trashing your heals ability to heal
hammer cc does
you can animation cancel into those attacks and string them, and by speccing passives you also cut down those cds.
in OPR or large battles, where you see a millions hammer/X, healers are melted fast.
even paladins and resto druids can be outplayed by dps. outplayed being the key word. And new world is good because it focuses more on damage and people dying than heal tank meta. I hate heal tank meta. Having their roles perform well is fine, but when they dominate the game it’s boring AF.
thats correct and you are right.
knowimg how to play against a healer is the key.
but as we know, many of the players here feel that left click spam should do the trick.
it cant possibly that using voip or even army chat to coordinate could possibly be why they cant take down a competent healer.
i run sword/board and hammer with 200str and 200con. in most wars, i can hold my own with some of the bruisers. it is a completely different playstyle and you will never be able to burst down enemies like other classes. tank class takes alot of patience and really tight timing on skills to get stuns off. if you can keep yourself alive with the proper gear and playstyle, your effectiveness will never show up on the scoreboard, but you will always be noticed and valued for the set-ups and assists that you give to your allies.
we have friends across all 3 companies and had a fun duel tournament for bragging rights. a sword/board tank with 200/200 won the entire thing against every other class out there. its all about your own personal skill. sit outside a popular town and duel alot of people. im still struggling with all of the skills, but i am improving and can hold my own.
well, coordination doesn’t mean 5+ people. That’s just healers being overtuned.
2 to 3 people should be able to kill a healer with coordination.
200 con and 200 str IS a brawler build
… how many healers.do you see take on 5+?
i.dont see many they are outliers.
im sure we see these uber unkillable dpsers too right? who can somehow iframe almost every attack while 1vX and kill 5+ people.
ive seen sword and board healer be close to unkillable, bit then again that’s all hes doing os dropping sacred, beacon, then turtling lwtting his +30 defense passive work for him.
but again, what good is a selfish healer? hes only healing himself.
I know the solution to your problem, have gear classes unlocked by x% con… medium unlocked at 50% base con, and heavy at 100% base con. If you want bruiser you can get your stats through equipment. Then add con perks at 350, 400, and 450 that get significantly better incentives to run 0 damage for super tankiness.
It’s absolutely bizarre what tanks have to go through. The first week of launch as tank and getting into Amerine, no gemmed weapon as at the fresh-faced level of 24 I did not have one… I think it wasn’t until my late 20’s I even got my first gem slotted weapon… and yet our ability to taunt is directly tied to a gem? It’s weird man… it’s so weird. Tanks need major retooling before I touch them again… but so do most all weapons and roles… the very foundation is… blegh.
The only reason I play still; peaceful scenery + fishing or doing a gathering node route makes for a relaxing evening.
you must not play a lot of outpost rush
that’s called being good. These same people die in 3 hits. I 1vx melee zergs all the time, cause all they know how to do is hold W and press gravity well.
tanks needs to get some functionality in high con builds. An example would be an attacker stagger on successful block on 300 con added in.
the 1st thing is to take away the grit assigned to 300 str and give that to 300 con.
second thing is to assign 250 con +20% physical and 20% elemental resist
force tanks or any con/x user to be survivable but low damage.
you could at 200 con instead have -20% damage as well.
amd you cam apply that to 200 focus to
once you hit 200 focus, you damage goes down but heals go up.
yes! thats riight and happens most of the time.
and yes i do play lots of opr, in which i barely see healers we cant kill.
im a healer myself lifestaff/ig, and there are times i can last and others where i go down fast.
i wouldnt call it op.
now if i go sword and board its tough to kill me, but i turn into the selfish healer.
I see it all the time, without ice, they survive forever. But it takes 1 ice shower /ice storm to shut them down now generally.
Well aparently the devs only want to have people playing Melee DPS with some healing, Tank or ranged DPS on the side but no Full builds.
At least the latest changes and the upcoming ideas are pointing towards this.
in literally every OPR. I am not even kidding…
So true! I can live with the fact that i cant dish out dmg, i even accept the fact that i cant do solo content but pls let me for this trade off be a TANK. Let me be able to control the battlefield let me be able to buff myself or allies (without when switching weapons losing the buffs).
Tanks are needed in games and its always a path rarely ppl chose but still some like the responsibility of the tank but as for rn its very punishing to be a tank.
While I have my opinions on the use of taunt gems, and game design, that’s aside from my point here. Tanks in PVE are working fine, and Tanks in PVP are ok, we are discount dps, and honestly are just warm bodies on a point… that’s our purpose to take up space.
I do agree with some other post’s that the extreme diminished returns on the CON stat, need a buff, at very least let con scale like the other stats instead of cutting the amount of health we get after 200 in half or worse.
What I’ve not seen anyone comment on in this topic or any tanking topic, Is giving a solution that is pretty simple.
Give us a one handed weapon that can be equipped with the shield, ( Honestly ALL one handed weapons should be equip-able with a shield If we have to use shield to tank.) that scales on STR/CON for it’s damage. IDK maybe a one handed hammer or something.
There’s my two solutions, Make the “shield” slot an OFF HAND slot, that players can stick a stat stick in like a totem or charm or some other junk… and get some effects, and then let tank put their shield in it for their stats and shield… I realize that would mean overhauling Sword skill tree’s seeing as how one of them was literally meant for the shield. But this would be the best solution. Give shield it’s own skills. Make the player chose between shield skills and weapon skills with one handers if you’re worried about balance. Alternatively it’d be just as easy to give whatever “offhand” slot you create a few skills as well and just give us a third set of skills.
What’s drawing a ton of your hardcore and long-term players away from the game quickly is lack of variety. Not having the option to tank with multiple weapon and be as effective as Sword and Shield. Only having 6 skills is a design choice, that’s fine, but the lack of options and variety is driving the MMO players away. The combat is good, really good in this game. Just need you guy’s to turn up that dial to 10 from the 5-6 we are sitting on, and you’ll have a longer lasting title on your hands.
In short, while tanking is kind of functional in the game. It’s not polished, it’s not enjoyable from the standpoint of someone who’s tanked in every major MMO in the last 20 years. In other words There are mmo’s I’ve played for years dealing with all the bad dev decisions, and poor content generation, just because it was fun combat, and good Raid/PVE boss mechanics. *** This is not one of them in it’s current state.***
You are just playing it wrong, I am a glass cannon dex player, and I cannot heavily damage a true tank player that is using shield, and of course you do not engage a glass cannon mage unless you have the right setup, this is not your common MMO where its easy to be a tank, just wear latest armor and you are set
