“When all worlds are back online from downtime, our plan is to monitor the framework we created without turning transfers on immediately. Once we have confirmed that the framework holds up at scale, we will turn on character server transfers in the Utopia world first, in the AP Southeast region. We will closely monitor transfers in this world, and if anything out of the ordinary occurs our team will need to make manual interventions. If all goes well, we will turn it on for the rest of the AP Southeast region, and continue monitoring. If after 8 hours our team hasn’t discovered any issues, we will fully deploy character server transfers to the other regions.”
But the server downtime means that this 8 hour period occurs during the middle of the night for Australians (servers will come up at 10pm assuming they’re on time). So they’re waiting just long enough to ensure that there’s very little testing of the transfer system, because we’ll all be asleep when we’re supposed to be testing it.
Looking forward to seeing the results of this test. Hope it goes well.
That’s quite literally why they planned it like this. So that if anything did go wrong, the sample size would be small enough to fix within a reasonable timespan.
There’s no way for them to pick a time that will be convenient for every time zone. Someone will be inconvenienced, and there is nothing that can be done about that.
I’m really glad they are taking a very cautious approach to this, as I’ve seen first hand how horrible it can go on another game. I’m hoping after this first initial server they don’t roll out transfers to a large amount of servers as just cause one went well doesn’t mean the rest will. I hate to say that, but a bad server transfer, loss of data, etc. etc will be catastrophic for the game.
The Australians will likely be getting ready for bed at 9pm when the servers come up. Most will write off the night and go do something else. You will be testing it for the 8 hours they will be asleep?
The people who will be awake on this server will be SEA players and they want to move to a SEA server which are not yet available…
I feel your testing will be ineffective unless you open a new server and mark it for SEA and just transfer it to a new physical location in Asia in the future.
I swear they could give people level 60’s with every item in the game, all the gold and houses… Everything and people will still find something to complain about.
Can i ask what is the first time when you can activate the server transfer in EU Central because it’s not clear for me?
if everything goes according to plan
