When I started playing New World, I leveled up as IG/FS. Got to level 60 and started PVP and was getting SMOKED and it was frustrating me greatly. Tried WH/GA and same thing. What was most frustrating was getting stunned or staggered or rooted every 5 seconds or so resulting in mashing keys like my health pot or switch weapon and ultimately dying with my health pot still unused.
So around February of 2022 I started thinking about how to avoid all the crowd control. Well crowd control for the most part has very limited range. So if I sit outside of their range I won’t have to worry about it as much. How can I do that and still dish out damage? IG/FS wasn’t where it was at – still too close.
And it dawned on me – musket! I can sit back and shoot people and avoid most of the CC’s. Now after Skitzo builds became popular, I had issues and had to learn to be evasive. That was the most fun about the build for me. Having an assassin sneak up on me and being able to dodge and weave to get away from them. Then stamina regen rate was nerfed and it hurt but I was able to adjust. Next came the further changes to stamina – the interruption of stamina regen and the introduction of the Great Sword. Those were harder to adjust to but I did-ish.
Now, understand, I am not a great musket player. I don’t get 20 or 30 kills per OPR, I’m lucky if I get 8 or 9. But the build is the only build that is fun for me. I’ve spent almost all of my time since Feb. of 2022 getting gear that is near bis.
I never use exploits, never use aimbot, and always thought people that did were just weak players with no skill. And I don’t even use ME anymore because it’s really a waste since I consistently have low-kill games (not to mention the stress that came from trying to save my stacks when I got them and the frustration of losing them because I died to a hatched that should be dead but oh no they have undying).
I wouldn’t mind having to farm for new gear, I’ve done it tons in other MMORPG’s and I have more ways available to me to get gear than when I started building my musket (basically I can craft it now lol). But the nerfs that are coming in the update on PTR can’t be mitigated by gear. The only people that will be able to viably use the musket will be those that are extremely skilled with the weapon and those using aimbot. Well I’m not that skilled with the weapon and I WILL NOT use an aimbot.
(TL;DR : my last year of work is being undone and I can’t play another build because I get too stressed out in melee range)

At least musket changes will allow it to be used in expeditions… Na, it is still going to be worthless there. I will not even be using it to hunt armadillos anymore.
Travel time, and bullet drop are too hard to code, just like doors.
Got back to firestaff/ig simple fix.
That puts me in CC range and I’m sorry I don’t agree with another player having the ability to essentially unplug my keyboard and I can’t do anything to get out of it. I get so frustrated sitting in a daze after getting smacked with a shield, I’m pressing keys but nothings happening because that’s the whole point of the attack. Yeah, there is a ‘diminished return’ on stuns, staggers and roots but it’s not made clear when it procs and there are ways around it.
