i returned a few days ago after a 9 month break and grinding genesis for expertise is making me rethink my decision.
I actually don’t know what you are talking about in the game.
Here is the dev post about the shift to calling the end game progression system ‘expertise’ instead of ‘watermark’. Except for the circumstance of players buying gear (which I don’t think either of us is referring to), and the ability to direct how you level up (ie via umbral shards) which I am talking about, but I don’t think you are referring to, what part of this is different between the two systems?
What is the choke hold you refer to? Seriously, describe a specific circumstance where there is a choke hold on end game progression, but I do not know what you are referring to.
My main I levelled watermark before the change. My alt I levelled recently with the double XP weekend to do the Marauderer faction progression for the sake of completion. I have experienced both systems.
People chasing to death anyone they hit. Not only newcomers xd In this game u must play everything to make strong character pve + pvp after reaching 600 GS you can give up pve for only pvp. After you reach 500-600 u will probably save like 100-200k gold, hundreds of potions, so u can buy good gear for start. It will take you aprox. 3-5 weeks to max character is it long ?
Dont play if u dont want. Maybe MMOs are not for you. New World is not so grindy in the end after u hit 600 u can stay in the city and just spam arenas and oprs.
Okay, then I’m not going to continue. Peace.
If you want to PvP in New World it’s way more grindy than BDO, FFXIV, and Lost Ark. Because those three games have at least one standardize version of PvP. While New World does not have any.
Meaning in New World you are spending around 350 hours of PvE before you are PvP ready. Where in the aforementioned MMOs. You’ll spend less than 72 hours in PvE. Before you’ll be a full fledge competitor in PvP. Yes, the fact is there is a much bigger grind wall to get into PvP in New World. Then there is in most current relevant MMOs.
The only MMOs that have a bigger grind wall for PvP. Are the ones that has less player count than New World. Lost Ark, Bless Online, Eylon, and such.
You would be right if MMOs like Lost Ark, Black Desert Online, Elder Scrolls Online, Guild Wars 2, and Final Fantasy Online 14 didn’t exist. But since they do, you are very wrong.
Also most people that want to spam arenas and OPR like gameplay. Wouldn’t touch New World in it’s current iteration. They would go play Seasonal RBF in BDO. Or equalized Ranked PvP in GW2 or Lost Ark. They would go play Battlegrounds in ESO and FFXIV. Before they subject them selves to the massive PvE grind wall in New World just to do PvP.
I have not played BDO. In FF14 pvp sucks lets be honest, in lost ark u dont have to grind if u wanna do only arenas 3v3 or 6v6. But if u wanna do GvG real pvp content u must grind for 5-6 months
What is that suppose to mean ?
Old news FFXIV actually evolved their PvP scene. While games like New World, ArcheAge, Bless, and other refuse to evolve.
I just dont like it xd And thats good for me in NW they did not evolve/change pvp now
Game is young we will see in the future firstable game must survive
and wait again for hype around it. If will not happend then well thats happends and game will fall.
What hype is going to be behind New and Returning players having to do about 350 hours of PvE raising their Expertise before they can get into PvP. If they are PvPers then the only thing that will cause hype is the removal of the Expertise system. In favor of a different Gypson system for 500 to 600, or AGS just flatout starting players at 590 GS mark.
As I wrote add similiar shards for 500-590 obtainable after every gypsum craft as we have 590-625 and thats enough, but its only my suggestion. This 500-590 zone is deadzone, it had sense in the beggining. But from the other hand is a good time to just grind earn gold to buy gear after. About pvp well you can always play as healer or mage support.
Very accurate. It’s why they’re defending it. Their only accomplishment of playing 10 hours a day is suddenly threatened by “casuals” and it’s an existential threat.
There are several ways to fix that or just remove it.
They can fix the drops, in case you do a dungeon 415253 times before it’s 590 you still get a 590+ gear and then the experience system adjusts this.
They can fix the gypsum to be able to get unlimited gypsum per type (I don’t know how this is not implemented yet), so if you want to spend all day collecting, you can do it and get gypsum in the same way, now you can get only 1 gypsum per day that way
The other thing is to be able to exchange more than 1 gypsum per type of armor/weapon, it is illogical that today you can get 10 gypsum a day but you still have an improvement +2 a day, even if you only have 1 item left to go up to 600, this really does not It makes sense, that is, if I want to try a new weapon build, it takes me 1 month to leave it at 600.
And the simplest way of all is simply removing the system.

Is the general atmosphere for new and returning players trying to get groups for dungeons to raise their Expertise.
This game has very little chance to convince new and returning players to stay for more than a few days after hitting lvl 60.
OH…but according to certain posters in this thread…it’s not a problem!
It’s clear that this topic is strongly viewed in different ways by many, yet we can’t even get a statement from the devs in regards to anything.
I would argue the biggest barrier is the extreme elitism in the community.
People can get beyond the poorly-designed grind, but I imagine it’s disheartening when they see posts all the time attacking them for not being the best players.
I think if the expertise system is redesigned into something friendlier, like you said, it would greatly help. I do also think embracing new players instead of grinding them down for not being the best players would also be a great push towards retaining new and returning players.
Thank-you for your candor.
How would you name : Demanding to get everything with 0 effort?
Great game at beginning, boring and lack of content 1 week later. Then they quit for few months, return and demand more.
