The game is still fun and the improvements that we get help, BUT in order for people to come back it needs...:

…a clearly communicated vision. A lot of people definitely enjoyed the game when it came out. I bet they would also enjoy the new stuff like mutations, arenas and whatever content is planned next.
However what I hear from a lot of my friends who quit/took a break is that they won’t come back at this moment because New World, as an mmo, is a game that needs a lot of time/effort investment. They are not willing to make this kind of investment for a game with an unforseeable future. The main concerns are that the developers might shut the game down at some point due to low player numbers (=low income) and that they don’t know what they can expect content wise in future.
I think answering these questions in the next developer video would help the game a lot! Just be honest with people, show them a good plan, and they’ll come back and give the game another chance.

You’re right, a lot of people do have anxieties about the developers giving up on their game and shutting down the servers. It’d probably be helpful if they addressed some of the fears of their player base. I actually have a lot of friends that are worried that the game will eventually shut down, so they just don’t want to invest their time into a game when it could be pointless. Arenas are going to be a nice addition to the game too, maybe New world could consider looking at making a free to play weekend every month with their new update releases so new players can gain the opportunity to try some things out. A lot of people are skeptical about the game and do not want to pay money to find out if they’ll like it or not.

@RaistlinMajere Thank you for your critical feedback. It is important to making Aeternum the best it can be. Aside from the Roadmap for 2022, monthly Dev Blogs, and special events, what more would you like to see in regards to communication? Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

Don’t get me wrong, the roadmap was definitely a good start! For example I came back and it was one of the reasons. However for most, it wasn’t enough. As I said before, the fear that New World might be taken down at some point is what hinders most people to invest a lot of time into it at the moment. I don’t exactly know what you guys can do to give people some assurance, I guess only an explanation on what your goals with the game on a long term basis are would help. How do you want to make it financially profitable again? Furthermore people would be interested in your strategy concerning how to make people play the game again and maybe a “promise” that you are committed to making this game successful and won’t shut down anytime soon.
I know it’s rather much to ask for but without it, I don’t see a lot of people coming back anytime soon. And if they do, they’ll probably still have the same concerns and maybe quit again.

There has been so much quality feedback on these forums (not by me)…
Yeah, it’s usually outweighed by troll posts and nonsense.
But how much of solid feedback has actually been implemented?

That’s why people don’t come back.

A buddy of mine asked me…2-3 months ago about NW and was looking to buy…tbh I told him don’t. I told him the reason I still play to this day is because I’m a cheapsake LOL I invested 50 for the game, spent prolly 30 bucks buying a couple skins so until game flips off for good, I always get my monies worth. After I SHOWED him the game, 10 minutes in he said no way in hell man, thanks for saving me my money bro…
