The healing system and targeting

The healing system with its targeting that flips you all over, is one of the worse of any game I have ever played.

They need to add a new setting where it prioritises lowest HP in your target first. That will fix so many of the ST issues.

Smart healing, as it is called in other games, can be very heavy on the network.

It needs to check so many possible targets for a heal it ends up causing a lot of lag. I believe this was already changed from previous versions for this reason. Though I could be wrong on that. They def made a decision to change heals to be targeted at one point.

I would prefer point and click, because the current system locks into a target that then controls your characters movement turning you into a puppet. So you can’t even dodge bad shit. Or keep your eye on others. Going back to FF14.

There was an arpg called Tera that did healing really well. The heal would trigger a “lock on mode” where you could lock on to 2-3 targets based on proximity to the mouse movement, and when u clicked left click it would fire on those that were locked on. Kind of like the current fortnite build system. If you didn’t like the targets or selected incorrectly, you could escape out of the lock on mode, not triggering the cooldown. Cooldown triggers only on fire. Other heals were more along the circle style heals we see but with static placements that werent cursor based. (around you, infront of you etc). To date I believe this was the best healing style I’ve ever found in an arpg

The single target heal is a freaking pain, and don’t get me started on the “self-healing” with the CTRL key, sometimes I end up healing the floor two feet away form me, like, I have the finger on CTRL HEAL ME!!! not a rabbit or a tree next to you.
It’s a question of habit, but it is an awkward system indeed.

they just need to expand the “target self” mechanics… like instead of holding ctrl the pressing the skill to target self (or hitting speel then ctrl) they could assign a number or keybind to each party member so when used in combination with skill the heal goes to that specific target…

I dont have issues with the CTRL Heal, but what drives me crazy is wenn I want to cast a sacred ground and out of nowhere (corrupted portals can get messy) there appears a player and despite I dont be in a group it targets him…

So why the heck doesn’t he target me by default when i’m not in a group?

Smart healing restricted on the group (and later even raid) should not be that performance heavy as it only needs to check 5-25 player.

Smart healing outside of the group can cause severe performance issues. (You need to check the radius first, then find ALL player within the range, get their current HP, find the lowest then cast)

Expanding on the target healing mechanism. It’s awkward indeed, but the scroll functionality for parties works well in dungeons. I’d say that in general it works good enough for dungeons. It’s open world where it gets very useless.

In bigger pvp sets of people it makes no sense to have the scroll functionality

And the fact that targeted healing grabs anyone! In your party or not makes absolutely no sense.

If I’m questing in the open world, I should indeed be able to heal whoever I want, but that should never be the priority of the healing target! Dozens of times by now I’ve been fighting mobs almost dead for my heal to go to a random hobo instead of myself

Open your settings and look for the section about life staff targeting. You can turn that annoying crap off.

Yes, something like this would be a huge help. The scroll wheel is useful to have but is quite clunky and there is often a delay scrolling to the correct person, overshooting etc. and also the frustration of accidentally healing the wrong person. It would help if direct target heals targeted the lowest health party member by default and you could instantly target party members using the 1 to 5 buttons.

whole game is based on skillshots, i dont see why healers should have targeted heals. dont get me wrong, i m playing as healer very often and i like it. First dungeon was disaster, then i learnt about that i can turn off targeting in setting. After that im healer i wish i have always in my party when im on other role
i read some comments here and i guess not everyone checked options (as i said, i turned them off but there are some quiet helpfull options about target/camera locking)
Targeting someone by pressing 1-5 numbers seems to easy in game based on skillshots, this is literally feature like macro so from me, its hard no

Skill shots? Most abilities are fire and forget in the general direction of players.

Healing is much more complicated because it’s ground targeted if you try to cast lights embrace free cast and if there’s multiple players clumped together you’d never get a proper heal off in a war.

Yeah that’s why I use orb of protection, beacon and sacred ground.

I spent 30 seconds with the targeting system and said nope, not dealing with this.

Turned it off in settings, then just aim where I want to heal. Usually end up with top heals in the server.

Can’t heal when you’re stun locked, knocked down, staggered, did I say knocked down, 24/7. I can’t stand life staff because I feel like it’s the weapon I’m unable to use the most. Every move takes so long to cast you can’t even get anything off.
