I have been playing EVE Online for the past 5 years.
Its one of those weird mmo’s that cannot be compared to any other mmo. Its unique in so many ways to a point no other mmo can match its scale and brutality.
As far as player base is concerned it hasnt dropped to an alarming level over the 20 odd years of its lifetime. It has one (single shard) server and the highest pop was generally during 2012 - 2014 ish spiking up to 50k+.
In 2022 its still holding a decent 35k concurrent accounts logged during its peak hrs.
What i like about eve is that your character progression happens automatically and is time constrained for everyone at same pace unless you use real money or ingame money to inject skill points. But then again it has insane diminishing returns to a point people dont do it much after a certain level.
So you character keeps leveling up passively whether you play the game or not as long as you are subbed and pve grinding only happens to make enough money for the ships you loose in pvp.
Eve is not made for cry babies, its bruital and pvp is unforgiving but very challenging and enjoyable at the same time.
Eve is a great game its just that the learning curve is tough at the start and its insanely unforgiving to new players. But if you are one of those people who toughen it out and weather the storm it is very rewarding later on and thats why most of the older players still play the game.
Bottom line is you cannot compare how eve is doing to new world cuz its such a unique game you will never experiance in other mmo’s
Sure.
You are correct in your assessment if devs don’t change the culture and don’t enforce proper behavior - this is the most prominent failure of Blizzard to date. This is why everyone rages about party finder.
If, however, AGS pulls finger out of their asses and starts doing what responsible developer should do, PVE servers will become much more popular than PVP servers quite easy, because PVE foundations are good in this game
They point which aspects of the game that need to be review by dev, at least on their point pf view. While pve players doesn’t think looting boxes without killing the boss on open dungeon is one of good thing from 80% of the game.
Well feel free to throw my comment to the garbage. But looks like your comment has already proved me right.
Yeah
I think every person has something he good at while gaming. But it doesnt mean what he is suck at, is bad. Like for example for some people looting box without killing mobs or bosses is considered as good aspect about the game while pvp is suck.
These are global percentages. I’m not saying that PvP isn’t important. I’m just saying that in this game PvPers (hardcore PvPers) are an ultra small minority.
If you want to use data from steam achievement. Then its wrong to say pvp players are minority. If you check more, number of players who reach level 60 is only around 16%. and if 9% has done first outpost achievement, meaning more than 50% of lvl 60 players have done it. While only 5.3% has done genesys expedition.
First pvp war achievement- 7.8%
First pve war achievement - 2.2%
Around of ppl who play the game to the end game. Majority of them is pvp players.
You can find those data in steam global achievement. See it by yourself so there is no BS.
Looks to me your a teenager than because DAoc and SWG both had fantastic PvP but both went exactly the way NW has gone - Killed by Dev’s with thier ‘own vision’ and forget anything else (oh and just so you know what I mean, Smedley destroyed SWG just like he is destroying NW).
The thing I find ironic, is New World sacrificed a TON of its combat quality to be more accessible and have a mass appeal. Players who defended this change cried out that PvPers and people seeking an MMO with skill-based combat are a minority.
Turns out, New World is even more niche than the PvP-focused games.
Yeah they are killing the mass appeal and don’t seem to realize it…casuals make or break most games unless you built the game for a niche audience to start with which is clearly not what AGS wanted for NW.
which means you are sampling only 16% of the potential player base and you have no idea about the pve/pvp preference of the other 84% because they either left the game for good or have it in standby until AGS fix the shitshow of bugs NW has
Also we need to take into consideration that a pvp player is more likely to reach lvl60 due to the EXP bonus that flagging provides.
the is a good chance that pve population left before reaching 60 due to bugs a bad game design like gating dungeons behind orbs
edit: I’m assuming all those achievements you mentioned are only doable by lvl60 players, if that’s no the case then ignore my comment
More like pvp games that can respect peoples time.
almost all of those games you can jump in for 30 minutes to an hour, have fun, and not ever be left behind in the dust because you didnt commit to 6 to 8 hours a day grinding.
Rust being a different pvp beast all together. and mods and custom servers change up things quite a lot.
no clue what happened with yu-gi-oh! but its pretty funny to see it.
My friend caraota. No offence, but you cant make those assumption without learning all data from steam achievement. Open it and find it. You will understand why that 16% lvl 60 players has way more value than 84%.
And you can start doing war from lvl 10. My first war is when i was lvl 26.
