Oh I don’t disagree one bit that the game is in pretty much ‘this is fine trash fire’ state, only that if you wipe the servers it only goes from bad to worse. You lose those few loyal fans that are huffing on the copium, you lose any casual fans that were still poking around a bit and all the exploiters and bots are fine with a wipe because it financially benefits them to make people start over.
If they wiped the servers today the player base would likely be begging for another wipe as a christmas present after some new exploit is found.
As a person who cheated in the game by duping items, gold, voidbent armor, etc (I am not, but humor me in my impersonation, okay?) I think your proposal of having the devs check the database logs and ban the cheaters is immature, childish, unrealistic, communistic, and stupid.
That could negatively affect me or my company of cheaters and exploiters, and nobody would want that, right?
The best thing is to ask to nuke the servers from orbit. To wipe them out. Anyway, the game is boring now that I have so much gold in the bank, all the legendary items, and the best armor. It’s no longer fun.
So better to start from the beginning, blank slate, tabula rasa. No cheating this time. I swear it in Baby Geezus name.
Pros: All. They don’t ban my or my company of cheaters.
Cons: None. Nobody that matters to me loses any progress.
PD: For those that read posts too fast, I encourage you to re-read the part in bold in they first line.
That’s why I argue that it’s useless to wipe. Casuals will immidiatelly quit and only rmt players will actually benefit.
My idea is to ban exploiters, leave as it is current servers and simply create a new one’s with slightly changed content, so players that already got bored from the game could take a look at it from a different perspective
Imagine open PvP world compared to current? It’s no longer possible to farm resources for bots and scripts, since players gonna punish them. It also will be easier to track the bots. If instead of reacting(running or fighting back) it would simply again and again start over the gathering = bot.
Tbh in many games happened similar stuff that it was possible to dupe something or get some stuff through bugs. It’s not something new, especially in the MMORPG sphere. The another question is that in many games it’s much harder to get to the end-game content… it would take weeks if not months, compared to NW, where you can get cap lvl and items in less than a week.
The main problem in this game is not even duping or anything like that. It is lack of content and really stupid systems. (current storage sucks, quests that simply require a lot of time just for running also suck) They basically fake the existent content by making limits to do this or that(like you can’t craft top gear even with 200lvl of that skill and resources, simply cuz it’s required for city to get all required workshops to required lvl)
And the worst thing for me is dead economy and in 1st place it’s not the fault of dupers. There’s no outcome of resources in this game and that’s super weird, since you can gather them infinitelly in huge amounts…
I’m ok with the wipe if I can start over in a fresh full loot pvp server AFTER all the existing bugs were fixed.
Due to wiping the existing pve game? Haha! No way! In that case they should hand pick every even duper item, go true every even account and filter out the duper sh"t. IF we play gathering-pve game I do not even wanna hear about wipes.
What’s next? They burn down my GPU??? (lol could not miss it sorry I know I know it is MSI…)
Full loot PvP server sounds too tough, but maybe to be able to loot defeated enemeis inventories? Like resources, potions and ingridients tabs. That sounds possible and not so fucked up…
that is full loot what you described there
I would allow to loot:
weapons and let the weapon tear related crafting skill be able to salvage out the perks on the weapon that should be sellable - in that case you just need the raw mats and be able to buying up your perks or salvaging them out from other player’s loot if you lost your weapon.
tbh, I would even allow to loot gold and repair parts with azoth(just allow to leave it in storage), but… I’m really doubting about looting any items(like weapons, armour, bags, tools) and anything equiped, since imagine you’ve been farming monsters and you dropped good item… you would start to hate this game if someone would steal your pants that you’ve been farming for several hours…
You may have HUGE MMORPG experience, but the talent that sits in the rooms that wrote this game has so much more than you. There are probably 100s of thousands of hours of experience and perspective in the rooms that direct, design and develop this game.
You are also looking at it from YOUR perspective, not their perspective. Your agenda may not be the same as their agenda.
And to think you start out with opinion and state it as fact. With your vast experience and know all about MMOs, I am surprised that you forgot that there is always a wave of players that rush to end game. That is never 100% of the player base and is generally a very small subset of the player base. It just happens to be the loudest, whiniest, and entitled bunch. The majority of players (active or not) are not 60.
Sorry . . . you are not special and have figured out the solution that they can’t.
I can guarantee, that most of gold is 100% duped. From my experience playing NW I can say that most of players that do not focus on getting gold won’t get >50k even in a week. People, who focus on getting gold can get ~50k/day, but that’s still nothing compared to a 400k gold dupe that can be done in ~1 minute. I have read multiple discussions and I also sit in Russian NW discord. From there I know that on average guild makes up to 500k/day on an active server with decent to high taxes.
From there I also know that some people were laughing from selling >10kk gold for real money(yep rmt). Even though they’ve got banned, they still earned A LOT in basically no time. Some of them also discussed that it is easier to sell to others resources than gold and even gave some screenshots(which were deleted later) about some trades, where they sold thousands of last tier resources.
Well, I have many alternative ideas, like aggresive PvE content, where monsters could raid cities and so on… The main point is that they already have content, but the way they use it is awful…
I have seen many games, which didn’t really had anything to show, but the were smart using what they had.
New World is doing opposite. They have whole 60 lvls, flexible items based on their gearscore. Already 5 tiers of items. Tbh I would say that in right hands that would be A LOT. They even have multiple dungeons and much more, like corruption, wars for cities forts e.t.c.
When you actually start to look at what they have you get curious in content, but once you actually start to do it, then you find out that the content is not optimized. Soo many different flowers, but most are useless… So many different alternatives to get equipment, but you don’t need any… just rush to 60 and craft top gear…
They simply got incorrect at the moment, when they were faking content that they don’t have. They don’t have interesting quests. They don’t have a lot of hours of gameplay. They don’t have variability(3 skills is nothing and there’s totally no balance), but they have graphics and content and… they simply don’t use it!
I’m fine if they will wipe servers only AND ONLY if they will make the game much harder than it is now, since rn it feels like the game was made for casuals to play it for ~week and that’s it…
Open PvP is just one of the possibilities to make game harder, but in reality there’re much more different variants that can suit most of players. Even simple resource requirement for repairing items and chance to break the item on repair already adds a bit of hardcore, but in the same time it helps to fix the economy by creating resource outcome, which currently doesn’t exist.
I could give here hundreds of ideas, but I’m not paid for that and I don’t think they gonna hire me for this, so I gonna finish here.
“Modern” MMOs - those that follow the paradigm of single-player PvE until cap, when either PvP and/or multi-player PvE become the game - are notoriously easy during the single-player PvE portion. I can’t think of a single one I’ve played in the last decade that wasn’t brain-dead easy… DCUO, SWTOR, Wildstar, NW.
IMO, the solution is to put the MM back into MMO. It makes no sense to me to have thousands of people logged into the same game, playing single-player alongside one another. All PvE content should be group content.
OTOH, MMOs that do this tend to not do well. DDO is a great example. At least when it was launched, and for many years afterwards, all content was group content. And it created a vibrant PUG-ing community. But it never got huge, and I think a big reason for that was that people got roflstomped after the first starter quest, realized they would have to group to succeed, and logged off forever. Just a guess, though.
