The Overwolf addon aeternum-map its allowed on new world?

This add https://aeternum-map.gg its allowed on new world? I just want a update because I got 7days ban on last week. I need to know if I can use this addon. This is the only reason than can justify my ban.

If you’re using the version that pulls node information no, it’s not:

Your link should have answered the question for you. It has the nodes, and as was clearly quoted above, you can’t use it if it does. You can’t use it if it does this:

Hi, developer of aeternum-map.gg here.
You are talking about two different projects here.
The Overwolf app (Aeternum Map - Aeternum Map on Overwolf - In-game maps for New World!) doesn’t have any nodes and is not against ToS. It has a blank minimap and allows streaming your location.

https://aeternum-map.gg/ is a website, similar to other map websites. It’s not injected in the game and can be open on any device (even on your phone or tablet). AGS didn’t ban website projects (otherwise, mapgenie, newworld-map,… would be banned too). The nodes and routes are only displayed on the website, not on the app.

AGS intention on banning minimap projects was to make sure, it doesn’t look like it’s part of the game and should not display more nodes than the in-game map.

Thus, both projects (app and website) are not against ToS and you can use them.
The misunderstanding and confusing is because of AGS communication, they talk about addons and Overwolf apps, but not about websites (are websites addons? what happens, if you open them on second screen or laptop?).

I am pretty sure you won’t get banned by visiting a website. If this were the case, I would have privacy concerns if EAC/AGS knows which websites I have opened in my browser.
The app (all Overwolf app) were whitelisted and should not trigger a ban. Otherwise, you would see much more reports :). AGS said they will warn users if they change their standing.

Would make atleast fair for thoose player who cant open it on a second screen

I’m curious - how does your website that is not an overlay (does this Hearth App run in real time plotting the player location against a map?) obtain the player’s real time position? If it’s doing that while also displaying all the available nodes then I think you may not be correct in your assessment.

Map-Genie very specifically does not have player location capability, which makes that comparison apples and oranges.

About your comment:

This is not true. See screenshot:

Same on newworld-map:

Both websites can be connected to NWMM (another Overwolf app).

It looks like you didn’t do your research and confuse other users with your comments.

So to be clear, a website is not an Overlay. You can open it on second screen, on main screen, on your phone, on your tablet or somewhere else. https://aeternum-map.gg/ is a website similar to mapgenie and newworld-map, but with some additional features like routes, groups and more. You can use these websites completly without installing the apps.

There are tools which would allow you to display any website as Overlay like the Steam or Overwolf Browser, OnTopReplic or Skeleton.

There are some app which reads your player position from in-game and stream it to a website (or other services). One of these apps is Aeternum Map (not the website), which can be connected to aeternum-map.gg to display your position. The map itself is not part of the app. You could use the app for other use-cases too, it actually provides an API to give you the possibility to create your own apps (like a Discord bot or status updater with your location).

There is an error on the Overwolf app website, which was created by Overwolf to advertise the app. The wording “A short installation will enable HearthArena on your Machine” is a copy&paste issue from Heartharena - HearthArena Companion on Overwolf (I already reported this).
I would go to Aeternum Map for details about the app.
Sorry for the confusion.

Somebody from staff can say if we can Use it or not?

I think the message was clear that showing both a live player location and nodes, treasure, elites, and chests is a no-no. Leveraging an add-on to do it on your map and then saying “well, it’s not an add-on, it’s a web page” is playing on a technicality. Yes, you have a web page…that’s useless (or no more useful than any static map) without a player location-providing add-on.

It’s interesting that map-genie’s doing that (I’ve been a Pro user of their maps for quite some time) and I wonder if they consulted with AGS before they decided to hook into Overwolf’s NWMM.

I think both you and map-genie are skirting the “no node locations allowed when an add-on shows player location” by leveraging NWMM as a real-time data source for your node-showing maps. Yes, they’re not an overlay. But also yes, they skirt what I think the intent is.

The thing is, that the AGS logic doesn’t make sense.
It’s forbidden to display a map with nodes in an Overwolf app (doesn’t matter if you display your location or not), but website maps are allowed. It doesn’t look like the decision makers understand how it works technically.
Overwolf apps are chromium based and technically websites too.
So what’s the logic in banning an Overwolf app and not the website, even if it looks identically.

The live position was never an issue. It makes it more comfortable for the user to navigate on the map.
I do not agree with your comment that a map would be useless without it or same useful like a static map. I think you are using mapgenie for the interactive features too.

Overwolf and AGS had direct contact with the result, that they get the information to read the position from ingame and got whitelisted in EAC. Overwolf asked, what is allowed and what is not allowed and tried to explain, how it works technically and asked for the difference between app and website. I asked Overwolf to ask AGS about the streaming. They never disallowed it and know what we were building.
So we never developed something without the knowledge of AGS and I had to ask for every feature I implemented in the app and websites, because Overwolf had to double check with AGS if it’s fine.
It doesn’t matter what you or I think about the ToS (I think it doesn’t make any sense to block the minimaps in the first place, especially if they are very close to websites).

But I agree that it would be nice to have another official standing to clear the confusion.

I absolutely agree with you that this is an area that needs clarity. I’ve reached out to the map genie folks already since I had been talking to them about doing a NW version of their maps - having used their excellent Red Dead Redemption map since it was launched - back in my alpha days here. I don’t have the NWMM functionality enabled, I don’t even have OW installed since I think the combination of live player location plus node, chest, etc data breaks ToS and I don’t find the minimap to be needed in NW.

Understand I didn’t weigh in here to slam your work, I commented because I do think the combination breaks ToS and don’t want to see anyone get banned. I think their intent is pretty clear, but I also think that the wording should be clarified to specifically talk to your (and map genie’s) implementations.

@TheOriginalTAV as unfairly banned for cheat, my friend was banned 9 times and unbanned 6 unprecedented times. I hope the game has a responsibility for its players who survive the stream. I am distressed by his situation, and even get excuses that have nothing to do with it.

Can we get more clarification on this quote from AGS? It’s pretty confusing and I can interpret it a few different ways.

When I first read this months ago, I thought it meant “you can’t display nodes which are active or depleted on the map”. I assumed this because that would mean reading some sort of internal network data to determine if a node is active or not, and that seems like a really big TOS violation. However if they just mean displaying where nodes CAN be, I don’t see why this is a problem. There are tons of web applications out there that do this already, so why would this be a problem? Is it because displaying a player location + static map information is an unfair advantage? It’s not difficult to have a web app showing nodes on one screen, and in game map on another and then read the two maps in my head. Maybe I’m old and just know how to read maps which is an unfair advantage.

Regarding the “places of interest” part, this also is confusing because that is already part of the map. Nodes are inherently not part of the map, but places of interest are. So if you are okay with displaying a player location on a map, which already has places of interest as part of it, why are you calling out displaying places of interest as violating the ToS?

So AGS will you please be a little bit clearer with this response?
