The reason there are so few players

Secondly,

The problem I had pretty early on was the crafting system,

I totally had the wrong idea, going in from the start i though i could just craft myself some good gear as long as i was willing to put in the time and gather the resources. That’s kind of my thing, Right?

Then that RNG hit me in the face, over, and over again. Then, i couldn’t even select the gear range for my friends. I thought i was doing something wrong at first, but i soon discovered there was no way to make a set for a lower level player without playing the RNG game.

Then the stats, RNG, the score? RNG, the WEARABLE LEVEL RNG. like…

Whoever designed this crafting system, Who hurt you? I will personally fly out and -Violent Speech Redacted- anyone that hurt you so bad that you thought THIS much RNG was in any way healthy for a crafting system.

Like, let me pick the stats (shouldn’t require an expensive item), and the level, sure the maximum GS can be RNG, like that makes sense. But the Perk bucket is so big, and makes SO much TRASH that it costs the entire GDP of china to make one decent weapon. So then what happens? You guessed it, that BiS axe now costs 500,000 Gold +9000 Asmo. Like, this is United States waste into the ocean level trash output.

And what’s worse, none of the trash items wind up any good. So it’s not like “less good but okay” items wind up on the TP. It’s so random that you have Legendary light pants with DEX and like healer perk with durability increase or logging luck. Garbage. Thousands in gold for garbage. tons, of, Garbage.

Like, let us select a bucket. Like, let me ring toss at the ones i want right? “Axe perks” “Life staff perks” “Something something useful for this type” perks.

And let me set minimum ranges, if my new level 50 friend needs level 50 gear i shouldnt have to play a mini game and roll level 35 to 48 gear best out of 10 good luck on what perks happen with that.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg with crafting issues, and the answer to that had better not be orbs or i will explode T_T.

What kind of crafters do we have in Aeternum. Could you imagine if you went to buy a car from the dealership and you might not get air conditioning because the assembly was RNG?

I get they want BiS to be rare, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of creating pants with no zippers and hammers with a burrito for a head. Like, at the very least CRAFTERS should be able to produce what they want, it makes sense for drops to be corny fine. But man.

Yes the crafting system is part of the grind in my mind. It all sucks very much.

Just give me 625 PvP gear earned through faction battle tokens

True that was somewhat more fun. However, 2 things to clarify here: 1-Almost NO Perk worked. Most were broken since beta and Devs didn’t even know. Only a handful worked or were disabled in pvp.

2- it invalidated the majority of player’s progress. Like it was pointless to craft in this game cuz it wouldn’t help you in pvp, to perfect your build nor pve with its 2 dungeons that were also pointless. basically, fully balanced pvp made endgame pointless in NW.

This was difficult to balance. Even now, if you have any solutions, I would like to read it.

my reasons I left:

  • Desync, I just got a new GPU (3080 ti) and It literally didn’t change anything in-game regarding stability…
  • lack of incentive for open-world PvP
  • weapon balance/life staff still being too cheesy/cornball meta

Then the grind.

All good reasons to quit.

But if the grind didnt exist at all, would you log in and play every once and a while? To see how the end game has changed over patches?

New World is basically the Matryoshka doll of time gates. Inside every one there is another waiting to be opened.

Forcing players to do things they don’t want to do is stupid Totally agree, as if I bought the game but couldn’t enjoy all of it

You really dont need much to be relevant in PVP, you just need two perks and a couple of triple perk weapons, you can purchase most of it for 20~30k each piece and this will be enough.

if there was no grind? I’d still not log in due to Desync, that’s the soul reason I stopped playing… Even if Desync was fixed completely, I’d then have a few reasons to still not log in and play… weapon balance is cheesy and corny lacks skill, clear meta that is abused because lack of real balance… Then incentive for PvP is very, very droll… pointless… like how can you have one of the best never ending concepts for PvP such as a 3 realm/faction system, and NOT have it matter…
Oh my enemy faction is in a war? why am I able to join them and help THEM in wars/invasions? lol it just makes me cringe. Honestly, the grind isn’t even on my radar, once you’re around 620, you’re gtg… 622 is where I’m at and I can’t tell when I’m fighting someone with a static 600 or someone who’s 625/maxed out… The only thing I’ll come back to test or try out at all would be a PvP frontier zone with real incentive on PvP… not some arcade lackluster concepts that hold no merit for incentives.

In this day and age, the old ways are out of date, we’ve been through the grind of World of Warcraft, and the game is not rich enough. If new people can’t join in effective combat right away, I don’t think most people will want to play this old game

:frowning: I can’t find the 3-perk weapon I want. No one has it and I can’t even attempt to make it cuz I don’t have the blacksmith pants.

There are really a few paths AGS could choose. If they even want to solve it.

A.) Catchup mechanics, like bring the grind loop requirement down. By either buffing crafting. Or by allowing players to progress at a decent pace in all PvP content. If people want to exploit PvP content, just yank their accounts away from them.

B.) Add one or more equalized PvP venues in addition to all of the current contests of gear. Players get a menu where they can select the perks and stats for these equalized PvP venues.

C.) Completely nerf all of the perks and stats on the gear by over 50%. This option would lower the impact gear has on the PvP scene. Without completely invalidating everyone’s progress.

D.) Add a completely new starting gear tier. So, like right now the cap is 625. Make it so from now on 800 is the lowest GS one can get after hitting lvl 60. And move the max cap to 900 or 925. Make the new tier of lvl 60 gear cost a new currency other than coin.

Those are the idea I have off the top of my head.

sadly… this is true. People want their hand held, QoL improvements that dumb down gameplay, or otherwise they use youtube to cookie cutter their builds and shortcuts/guides on how to do- whatever you want. even exploits. The days of people actually wanting to play a game without guides or hand holding wont work with todays gamers. it’s the “I want, I want” mentality, the type of mentality where they want equality of outcome vs putting in the work.

The same type of mentality that would complain that it’s AGS fault because they’ve been farming all day and never found what they’ve been looking for, meanwhile some guy get’s better RnG and finds said item, so the first gentleman would then take his complaints to the forums to blame AGS lol I’ve seen it time and time again. and this is only the tip of the iceberg

those ideas were proposed since back then, and this one was implemented by devs. they just didn’t go far enough or well-thoughtout. It was also proposed a diferent set with pvp stats to offset pve sets.

yup. was said too. Examples of arenas in GW2 and Loast ark were provided.

equivalents of this were said yes. separate numbers for pvp and pve like every game does. 50% less dmg and healing.

this scared ppl lol

I guess it’s up to the Devs to decide.

look I enjoy a bit of a grind but being nearly 3k hours in and not being able to have a single crafted BIS item because of the costs and RNG kinda killing it for me. I have light heal sets for each mob type aswell as dex and str dps sets for all of those types but honestly im still running purples in slots that don’t have named drops. the chances of getting a nice 3 perk piece are astronomically bad. like I said I have 15 sets of gear at 625 and still nothing has dropped I that would be considered BiS other than named items. even most great named items don’t drop at 590+ so you can’t upgrade them even though they do have a 3rd perk attached and all. for now I think im going to take a break and see what happens later with the game. I really do love the ideas the game is based on but it is too time consuming.

My friends, 4 of them, who bought the game on launch, stopped playing because of the grind and repetitive nature of leveling. They all quit in the level 30-40 range. I think most people who bought the game never got to level 60.

I sort of stopped playing because of the desync and poor PvP weapon balance. Additionally, even if I wanted to play, I cannot get OPR matches most of the time because my server’s population has dwindled so much, and I’m not willing to pay to transfer servers because I have low confidence New World will be around much longer. Hopefully they do another round of mergers in the next few weeks.

Didn’t do Town boards? ppl got to lev 60 in like a week back then. Sounds to me the game wasn’t worth the little grind. It did feel boring for me from lev 30-50 and 50-60 was ‘I just wanna be 60already’

Have you guys played other games that require grinding to endgame? If so, why did you stick around?

Dude getting 625 gs takes 10-13 days if you are slow.

It was their first mmorpg.

I stuck around until about early April of this year. When I stopped playing my server had like 800-1000 during peak time. My server has like 300-500 during peak time now. A lot of people must have quit around that time after the blunderbuss was released.

It’s so insufferable when people need to “flash their mmo creds” whenever they make a point.

“Hey guys, Mag here, I’ve been playing mmo’s since [insert discrete mmo], well over 30 years, let me insert some obscure, super subjective thoughts about what makes a good mmo.”

You could be a f’ing idiot for all we all know. Maybe you didn’t bring your notebook, or synthesize the game correctly.

Stop with the grandstanding. We all put on pants the same way as everyone else - unless you’re part of the work-from-home crowd then you might not put them on at all.
