The state of PVP and OPR

Hi all.

I’ve been playing since launch - with a few month break early this spring. I’m GS 625 for quite a few mutations, along with my main pvp set (spear + whatever i’m in the mood for, SnS, Rapier, hatchet etc)

I also have other sets i swap between when I feel like a change - so i often play mage classes, sometimes bow, sometimes musket etc.

There was a comment on a reddit post recently by someone who claimed that the only PVP that matters in New World is Wars. I disagree.

Wars are for a minority of the playerbase. I’ve never been in one myself.

And Wars DON’T really matter. The territory filter turned off - i never know who controls what and it does not affect my gameplay whatsoever.

The PVP that matters is the system AGS implements that allows everybody to PVP when they want - IE: OPR.

  1. We need to do away with the current map, or completely redesign it. If AGS has ZERO plans to tone down range and musket play in particular, than the map needs to be designed with proper choke points, buildings, walls and the like - so that melee are not constantly picked off by a team of 20 musket and bow players.

Muskets and Bow’s can be in a point - defending (a tower of sorts). The other teams range can pick them off while melee rushes through.

As it stands - the current PVP experience is just not fun 99 percent of the time. On top of the ranged and musket meta (to which i think muskets don’t even belong in this game), is the state of pre-mades in OPR. Most games are a slaughter fest, and it’s not fun. We don’t know if we will have healers, but if it’s a pre-made they have around 5-6.

It’s not fun.

I don’t know AGS can remedy this , but something needs to change.

Pre-mades should only be allowed in arena style games IMO. OPR is random, solo queue.

I played OPR for around 3 hours this evening, and there was 1 game that was fun because it was balanced. The rest was a musket fest combined with pre-mades. It’s like this EVERY SINGLE NIGHT AND DAY.

What’s the plan, AGS? What’s the solution?

In terms of your choke point idea, all it would do is Enable premade bruiser and healer squads to roll even more.

Matches just need to be better balanced, from the group finder we can see that they can scan what weapons people use when they sign up.

They could the same for OPR and at least try to split it more evenly.

It’s the team selection in opr that needs improving, because close games are way more fun.

On scoreboard you should be able to see what squads are together. Other games do this, that way at least you would be able to clearly see how matchmaking has composed the teams.

Right now I’m not sure anyone knows how MM works.

What I can tell you is that if 4 ‘5-stack’ try to synchro queue right now it always splits them 2 on each team. There are obviously mechanisms in place to make it more even, but they don’t go far enough.
