For everyone that is or has ever been upset by the magnitude of changes introduced by AGS in relation to PVP every couple of months, coming to the forums to scream that
“my class is nerfed too hard!” or “x y z class is way overtuned plz nerf!”
It is time to realize OPR is the problem.
One bare-bones gamemode we have been forced to play since launch if we want to play large scale PVP outside of wars. We have seen new expeditions, seen an entire new zone and seen new skills, new weapons, and have raids coming soon but still have the same OPR map!?!?!
Many people are saying they should add another PVP mode, but I believe in quality over quantity (as seen with the addition of 3’s gamemode that is quite dead and it takes me longer to queue 3’s to do my daily gypsum than it does to find 32 people for an OPR…)
The player base would see significantly more benefit from tuning OPR to encourage/reward underplayed and weaker classes, and other QoL changes such as a new map or baron variations or anything to make an OPR a more pleasant experience, such as limiting how many people can queue a specific class.
Firestaff or bows being overtuned wouldn’t be so problematic if there was only 3 or 4, but going against 30 of them in every opr while trying to learn light melee could debatably be worse than just being dragged on hot coals. And in my experience new players trying to get in to PVP all get funneled in to broken builds because they get eviscerated repeatedly trying out weaker OPR builds such as tank or melee or void gauntlet and the only real option ends up being to just follow the meta and play whats strong. Companies I have been in struggle quite hard to find tanks/melees for dungeons/wars and are overflowing with meta build players…
But we also have been so starved of PVP content that I don’t think we’d be really picky, another game mode with a larger player count than OPR would be interesting, maybe something that more closely resembles war to encourage classes that perform well in wars but are horrendous in OPR (like tanks).
Also little disclaimer, to everyone who attacks people who play new meta/strong builds… I get that its fun to try out a new class especially when it looks like everyone is having fun playing it. Maybe the same guy playing a strong build is someone who played that build last patch when it sucked. I am not here to attack people having fun with new/strong classes.
Besides to anyone that says “people just want to play what is overpowered”, these new heavy tanks running around with improved freedom/grit/fortification are absolutely insane but tanks are still extinct in OPR… People want to play what is fun, and often what is fun is strong but OPR limits people to play hypercarry damage light builds, this isn’t a war between one another…
It’s on AGS to balance the game and make it enjoyable. The playerbase isn’t supposed to self manage quality of life for itself.
But it happens so seldom that you can go days without any fights and even longer without a good fight.
Tack on the fact that if a faction is getting beaten then they call for help and either get help and cause the other faction(s) to give up or don’t get help and give up themselves.
Would personally love to see a PvP map with a larger-scale conquest formula with various objectives, which promotes a mixture of playing in smaller groups undertaking different scenarios, as well as larger team fights, rather than just playing tug-of-war gameplay between two blobs.
I suck at PvP and playing the game with high latency (no servers in my region) feels like it will prevent me from ever being good at it, but I would like to participate in a PvP game mode that doesn’t repeatedly consist of being steamrolled.
I think the problem with where it’s at now is that if another game mode ever comes into play, then the existing ones will have to retire because I believe that they’d likely lose the community’s interest in favour of a nicer cake. Still, I think it would be onward and upward if it’s better than what we have now!
