There is a faction of players who quit this game who are still waiting for PVP servers

Weird how people seriously think PvP players like me don’t do any PvE, farming or crafting. All maxed before they made trade skills easier to level aswell by the way:

Of course there are exceptions, but the majority of PvP players participate in all types of content in comparison to PvE players. And so the economy on a pure PvP server would look extremely similar if not identical to the economy that we currently see on live servers. Everybody needs consumables & gear, simple as that.

This is unfortunately right on the money.

And to those that think it’s wrong…let me remind you of the player proclaimed PVP server at launch. VALHALLA.

It folded and died within 2 months.

It would also happen with wood or fishing. So it’s not need to be rare ressources. It’s just the situation, that you have an advantage

True, but i heard the new quests seem to be more fun, so may the devs improve the world experience. I dropped some interesting ideas for pvp content in the German part of the forum already

Yeah, but that’s because you reached 625 already. Thats 400 Shards for every gips already and you are able to run M10 Mutaa

And that leads us to another big problem, these servers would get.

There will be problems with “fresh blood”. The whole leveling process will be even more boring and annoying. You might get killed by lvl 6o player for fun, it’s harder to find people for dungeons (same factions)

And if you reach lvl 60, no one is going to do chest runs or runs normal dungeons with you to push the watermark. Or low lvl mutations

if they ever do make pvp servers, then they should make fresh start ones and also ones that allow transfers. I would love a pvp server but I’m not gonna abandon a 1-2 year old character for open world pvp that I already do daily on top of the usual arena/opr

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think PvP servers will fix any problems. The game just hasn’t been designed for open world content, let alone OWPvP.

I just want to be clear of why it won’t work. It’s nothing to do with PvP itself, and everything to do with the shift away from open world content and the focus on pushing instanced content.

I think a forced flagging zone rich with resources and fun activities is the way to approach this problem, so that it appeals to anyone on any server. It should naturally attract players to a reasonably sized area that allows for player interaction and maybe even provokes it.

AGS just really struggles on design for almost everything you do when you actually scrutinize things.

And now try the same on a full pvp server. Every Ressource is more contested and the economy would be horrible.

Ressources who aren’t rare and just need effort to get would be so overpriced (charcoal, stone, alchemist ressources)

Let’s not even talk about the t4-t5 mats for leveling or crafting.

I’m confused. How does this affect the economy in any way when the overall availability of resources is still the exact same?

Lets take two things into consideration:

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were over 1 million gamers out there who would say they want an open world PvP game to play.

Open world PvP games are one of the most ignored genres by big game developers

Now, are game devs just big dum-dum’s who don’t know how to seize a market, or is maybe something else going on? Also this massive PvP MMO “market” has existed for over a decade, so you’re not telling anyone anything new.

The risk and the playerbase

You won’t have these power farmers, who enjoy to go in the woods for an hour and just enjoy to farm. All these people will stay on the normal servers

And there comes “risk” in it. Why should I sell it for the same price, when i have the risk to get killed and griefed while cutting trees? Coal for 0,30g? Hell no, absolutely not worth it

Would be awesome if we could have a full fresh PVP server, with so much PVP, faction tokens fills up quickly, opening a new future for the PVP FACTION STORE YAY! New CRAZY PVP SETS GREEN PURPLE AND YELLOW

MMOs are expensive to make and PvP games are tricky to get right, especially if you want the gameplay to have any depth and not just be a battle royale or MOBA.

Many MUDs figured this stuff out decades ago, but I don’t think most MMO developers really understand good PvP, let alone what makes PvP good in an MMO.

It’s also not hard to see when you come on these forums or go on Reddit and find A LOT of people who don’t want to play WoW or FFXIV but want their new MMOs to be highly reminiscent of them.

New World was going to be that game, but they decided in late Alpha to play it safe and be another WoW clone, and you can see that persistent direction being continued month after month. It’s not surprising given that this is their first successful game launch that they’d want to play it safe, but you can be damned sure this game had huge PvP hype for a long time; So much so that many people are still convinced this is a PvP game.

So what? Even just one server per region would be fine.
Call it an experiment. If it works, great. If it doesn’t work – that’s great too since now we’ll have proof.
Either way, everyone can then STFU on all the what-ifs and speculation because it’ll finally done and we know how it turns out.
They can obviously switch those servers back to normal if it actually doesn’t work out. Or just keep it and anyone who complains about not enough PvP can get a one-way transfer there.

They are adding servers to EU and US-East. I see wasted opportunities here to not at least have one PvP server in each, just to see how it works out.

To be fair there were other circumstances at launch, like how players exploited the Ice Gauntlet to lag servers and win wars.
Whole PvP guilds quit because of the exploitation to win and AGS not doing anything about it quickly enough. And of course literally every week there was other PvP exploitation or cheating and that continued for months.

I posted this in another thread but I’ll repost it here

As a player that only PvP’s (I have every pvp achievement with 2.5k hours) I say this.

PvP only servers are an absolutely horrible idea for a number of reasons.

  1. Which of the pvpers will run resource routes and supply resources for crafting, attribute food, and potion making. All while flagged btw
  2. The market will be scarce for equipment due to the nature of pvp servers being highly competitive.
  3. Big dog companies will take over and prevent any sort of heavy competition especially in NA East/West
  4. Due to the points above the server would slowly die.

HOWEVER, I do think that a mandatory flagged zone very similar to, if not exactly like the Darkzone from Tom Clancy’s the Division would be a great addition to the game. Opening chests after clearing a landmark and getting rewarded a small amount of umbrals and loot would be a very fun addition to the game and allow for consistent open world pvp to those that want it.

I’d like to see a pvp “zone” as well. With the same resources as available as in other areas, but maybe you get a little more of them. (Higher risk - higher reward).

Instead of making a new server or zone, why dont all of you that want a pvp server just flag for pvp… and never turn it off? If there are enough of you that want this playing currently, then that should accomplish nearly the same thing right? you just wouldnt have any power over players who dont want the same thing.

How many people are you speaking for?

I am more than 100% happy to tell a dev they are wrong on that front and that was a weak excuse to get that off the table.

Include fresh PVP servers, or continue to miss out on a segment of players who were denied the one thing they needed to stay around.

Just make that you drop 30% of gatherable resources when you die. Thats it. First weeks can be only pure pvp no drops. Would be amazing and would be insane hype.
