The people who get banned for their own negativity and then scream onto the forums claiming they ‘did nothing wrong’ and the admin is ‘abusing their power’.
But back in Edge Gamers, every ban was backed up with screenshots of the event in question, plus a ‘condump’ (condition dump) of the Source files for the server at time of banning.
That meant the comments in question were saved in a text file for later proof.
We also wrote out an incident report in the admin section of the forums, with our name, the rule-breaker’s name, the local time of the incident, and said screenshots and the condump for easy access to the proof.
Most the people would devolve back into their troll selves when they had the proof of their actions shown to them.
I would love to write a bot that just postes the offense under every post containing the word “ban”. Not sure if that is legal, but it would be fun. Thanks for replying, this job sounds like it requires a relaxed mindset.
It does. I lost mine when TF2 (the game I frequented the most) went free to play.
That change meant every racist or troll we banned would return 5 minutes later with a new steam account.
And since were usually ranked anywhere from 5-15th out of the tens of thousands of TF2 servers, we were a hot target for new trolls and everyone we had previously banned over the years prior to TF2 going free to play.
At that point; I stopped being an admin. It was like trying to plug a dam with my finger while the wall crumbled around me.
Admins, usually, don’t cover set users.
It’s whoever is around (or, in the case of a company, I’d assume ‘on duty’) at the time of the incident.
My rant about how slow the admins are being is because, if EGO could have people around 24/7 as volunteers, why does these forums seem to have almost no admins on the clock?
Welcome to internet forums, full of hate and negativity, since…forever.
Unfortunately, this is something that will never change, unless you rule a forum with an iron fist, which opens up another can of worms.
In all seriousness though, it blows that the EU servers have been down this long. I live in America, but I have been through this stuff before. My thoughts on this are, I doubt the staff woke up this morning and thought, “lets screw over a specific region”. I’m sure they’re doing everything they can to get the servers up and running.
