Delete the fail shortcut, start Steam, go to library, right click New World in list, select Manage/Add desktop shortcut.
(I’d also suggest downloading and running free version Malwarebytes Anti-Malware before doing anything else. If it wants to start a trial of paid version, just turn the trial off after scanning your system for and dealing with whatever malware you got.)
This is very true. A dedicated launcher would be nice. You can launch ESO from its dedicated launcher or Steam and the amount of players complaining about Steam issues is sad. That said I don’t expect to see an AGS launcher anytime soon or ever. I can’t even play due to server lag this AM. Why bother
I mean, many MMORPGs have their own standalone launcher (not what you’re thinking of, which is a launch service). That’s just a launcher for that game and that game alone. It’s really common and I sort of agree with the OP that it’s ideal but I’m used to using Steam as a platform and quite like it so I’m not that bothered. Stuff has outages.
So, just to clarify, I don’t think the OP is asking for another Steam/Origin/Ubisoft/Epic launch platform. Just a launcher for the game that handles logins and updates and so on.
Honestly though, I have played games that have their own standalone launcher as their primary source for this and they also use Steam and other launch services too - to me, it’s a mess. Like, they have to maintain all of them. And it makes sense because it pulls in more players but honestly, I think sticking with one platform is fine.
(I have four accounts with that game, two with the standalone launcher and two with Epic because it gave away free copies for a month - I could also have bought the game via Steam if I was a masochist)
Tell me you don’t use steam without telling me you don’t use steam.
I have been using steam since it came out (before actually, I was in the beta for it) and I can tell you their launcher system is only bested by GoG, for some weird reason GoG has a great launcher. Almost like they learned from Steams mistakes.
The issues I see people crying about here seem to be mostly personal issues. If you are having a lot of corruptability in your files when using steam, I can tell you it’s not steams fault. Almost 2 decades using the platform and I had that issue a whole of 1 time. And it was with a game since removed from steam because it was actually malware. As for shortages, most steam shortages are region specific. Early in NW where “everyone” was crying that they couldn’t get into the game because steam was having issues. The entire east coast was playing just fine. I know this because as I saw the posts on reddit and here flare up, I was competing against another 50 people for iron and hemp nodes (I play on the most populated east coast server)
We don’t have that issue. I doubt you have great anti-virus/malware/firewall/or any protection which is why your game might have got hacked. I suggest google your issue, and find a resolution or better get a new computer and get protection.
With that said, regardless if the game had a launcher or not, sounds like your hacking was derived from your computer (which is infected), oppose to the game itself.

There you go. I suspect her computer caught something bad to why her system got hacked. I wouldn’t be surprised if they already have her bank account and spending it on Panda Express.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800X, Windows 10 64X. Malwarebytes 0 detections. Defender 0 detections. You were saying?
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X, Windows 10 64X. Malwarebytes 0 detections. Defender 0 detections. I will delete the shortcut and recreate, but…
Scratch that: Update: I deleted the shortcut, created a new one thru Steam and guess what. Same prob. It goes to ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] I really am the only one? I guess I have been hacked good then. Either that, or Steam is messing with me on purpose. Nice.
Just because malware doesn’t detect anything doesn’t mean it isn’t there. That or you screwed up your own machine. Either way you did something stupid. Steam doesn’t care about you, no company does.
Is it though? Maybe complain to Steam. I don’t go bitch at Burger King when their wi-fi is down because they chose to use Xfinity and Xfinity is having outages in the area. Go home Karen. I mean, after all… Burger King is a massive company and they should create their own ISP.
thanks for quickly replying to it. We all hate those separate launchers
This post is an example on different personal opinions on the criticality of things and I hope it helps the community understand why certain decisions around New World by AGS were taken even if they puzzle you
The same happens in every company and organization
Remember when you could walk to the local “game store” and buy a game on floppy disk and take it home and you didn’t need the internet or even a modem and the game was final, never any updates, no matter what was wrong with it? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when a 360 kilobyte floppy disk could hold a whole game? No fancy 3d graphics, no fancy sampled audio, no nothing, just some beeps and pixels? Can’t we go back to that? And printed manuals? Why do we need this fancy webpage nonsense, not everyone wants to be an internet nerd. You see these credits with hundreds of people who worked on a game, and it’s like, I don’t need all that. All I need is one coder in a garage with a breadboard prototype system, 4 colors, and as many pixels on a screen as one letter has on one of these stupid “4k” monitors.
Damn yeah that’s unfortunate, and for you to still get hacked is crazy. I remember my ATM was hacked and it was used at Panda Express in Florida like 5x.
Standalone launcher, “launch service”, yeah the only difference is what you’re conveying as a “launch service” is a company that doesn’t offer other games or some kind of a store. UPlay, Origin, etc and all of the other “launchers” all don’t adhere to that. I’m not talking about some indie game with it’s own launcher; that’s not what we’re talking about. No, they’re all mostly the same - take Smite for example. NCSoft has a launcher, that is executed via clicking “Play” in Steam. You still need to have separate login credentials, which is an utter pain in the arse. So yes, the two terms are being used colloquially, yet everyone here knows what we’re talking about.
I have yet to play a game with a separate launcher that I can appreciate for what it is outside of the Battlestate Games launcher for Escape from Tarkov. RARELY does a game have a launcher that doesn’t either attempt to sell you another one of their games, or has a store for RMT.
If I had something in my computer which makes desktop icons redirect to chinese google, I’d do nothing with that computer until I’ve dealt with it or found someone else who have dealt with it. But maybe it is just my priorities.
It happened right after a Steam update. Not long ago, Steam pushed an update that made it not
possible to connect to this game for many people. I am hoping this is the same issue. I’ll go thru the registry with a fine tooth comb and download some other progs that are good at sniffing. Wish me luck.
Simple answer… laziness
There’s no need for a fucking “launcher” to begin with. A simple desktop shortcut to the local game .exe if all that’s needed! Steam is fucking trash!
if a new luncher creates problems then why doesn’t amazon buy steam? in the end he doesn’t lack money
