This new expedition is a joke

Another expediton with cut corners has me really worried about the new expansion. overall the admiral boss is pretty cool but at the end i feel like they just rushed it or put absolutely no effort into it. The end boss is basically just sirens with extra steps.

I mean, given the lost it makes sense with the scheme of things. So can see why lore wise they went that route for continuity. But, the mechanics i was a little surprised were just rehashed with extra bits added on.

Realistically, it’s still fun and i had a blast so that’s the important part i think. I do agree that i’m a little leery about copypasta ending up in brimstone, but the few things i’ve seen about it do look like the mobs and stuff will be different. I’m hoping it’s all pretty fresh.

New dungeon felt really boring but it got potential for fun mutators. Can be decent and wipes us here and there. So far I’ve seen only copy pasta from the old dungeons

I am enjoying the new dungeon.

I love the new dungeon. Its shorter (which is good), has fun mechanics and is beautifully designed. The regular is easy for players that are even moderately geared, as it should be. “Regular” dungeons shouldnt be painful, they are the learning and training grounds. Mutations are where the real challenges lie and I am here for it.

One thing NW does right is its dungeons. Beautiful design, interesting mechanics and bosses.

When a PvP game STILL has bad PvE…

It’s good to have a new dungeon. It’s disappointing to have a recycled boss. It’s bad that we are waiting so long between releases of new dungeons.

I’ve been hanging around harvesting shards, waiting for the new dungeon. I don’t know what’s supposed to keep me around for the next six months…

It is kind of hard to build a new experience around the tank, healer, and dps system. To be honest every MMO that does the PvE this way runs into the same problems. The PvE gets stagnant and content has no replay value other than to farm.

However New Worlds combat system is unique. Despite that they design the dungeons like a tab target MMO.

I suggest that they crank up the difficulty by testing players skill and not how well they study the dungeons mechanic’s. For instance once you get your build just right along with gear score to an adequate amount the only thing you need to worry about is boss mechanics. Now this is where New World limits themselves. You can only do this so many times and compared to other tab target MMOs you can’t offer anything new.

I guess what my main point is, the only RPG where I had fun playing the PvE content over and over was Dark Souls and more recently Elden Ring. But that was because I had to pay close attention to the bosses animations to block, dodge, then find openings to issue damage. However! The fun came from the unpredictability of the boss. It is the difference between feeling like you are fighting a monster that is larger than life or a scripted machines. Fighting something that feels like it is living and breathing is rewarding every time you kill it and something scripted and dumb is rewarding maybe once.

I find the new dungeon tedious, and contrived. It is also shockingly buggy given how it’s release was delayed expressly to fix bugs. I was taking a break from New World, hoping that the new dungeon would give me a reason to play again. It hasn’t. I get that it is a regular dungeon, but it feels like most, if not all, of the dungeon with the exception of the final boss could be cleared by a solo player.

The Admiral Blackpowder fight was fun the first time I played it, but as soon as the second time I played it, it was utterly boring. Only 1 cannon ball drops per wave, so only one person in the group has anything to do. The “adds” get obliterated in half a second, and the rest of the time 3-4 of the members are simply standing in Sacred Ground, in their bags salvaging the terrible and mostly BoP loot they got. The fight is poorly executed and does not require most of the party to do anything other than not die so they can drop dps on the Admiral during his down phase. ALL other bosses in this game are more engaging than the Admiral. Hell even Chardis who almost everyone agrees is left-click macro worthy, is at least requires players to be doing something during the fight. The worst part, is the “puzzle”? where you make offerings to the shrine is the same thing. One player runs orbs, and everyone else salvages / heals / watches. It is utterly boring.

And then… there’s the gratuitously protracted runs with patches of ground that slow you and or monsters that slow or knock you down. The monsters in the runs are barely worth stopping to hit, since they deal almost no damage, and the whole 2nd half of the dungeon seems designed to slow the players down and make the painfully droll dungeon take as long as possible. I have only ran this dungeon half a dozen times, and I would rather run a regular Laz, that I have cleared hundreds of times across every difficulty, than step foot in there again.

There’s also the “design choice” that requires interaction with unmarked NPC’s in order to be able to pull a leaver. I understand having an NPC that indicates that the leavers need to be pulled, as a tutorial for players new to the dungeon’s / mechanic. But it only adds to the tedium when you have to spam a dialogue with multiple NPC’s simply to get permission to pull a leaver. If you’re thinking “But that’s just like Cilla!” you’re right, and that’s kinda dumb too. But at least Cilla is only once in the whole dudgeon, and it’s to allow you to fight (effectively) the biggest threat in the whole dungeon.

The only moderately challenging part of the whole dungeon is the final boss, who only does respectable damage as a byproduct of the massive amounts of rend she applies to players when they are hit by her wind abilities. Even if the developers fix the multiple bugs found in this dungeon, it will still be boring. Something should have been done to come up with new mob types for Lost, or added more monsters or something to make this more interesting.

Can you tell me where it states the released version of NW version is a PvP game? Or are you still caught up on that trash the first alpha was and still very bitter the idea you found fun was actually so trash, they scrapped the entire game.

Tried it, i actually enjoyed the puzzles, like hit a switch, shoot a cannon ball. The first boss was fun, load cannon dodge cannonballs etc. The dungeon itself isnt bad, filled with some cool mixtures of mobs, from alligators to pirates and for some reason tentacles, not a fan of this mob type. Im not a fan of all the gold chests that slow you in the dungeon, just feels annoying.

The final boss is angry earth apparently which is a huge joke, apparently we can gain immortality again a big joke. I do like some of the mechanics of the boss, lightning pools, tornadoes etc. I havent done sirens boss but i can understand why people arent having it if theyve literally done the boss before lol. Ags never fails to cut corners.

The dungeon seems very simplistic, looks nice, apparently part of the dungeon is just reused assets from lazarus which i find disturbing lol. You really cant create something new? Mobs are the same skins which is fine i guess, but its def not ready to be mutated.

I’m caught up by using my senses and logic to deduce that this game was designed from the top to bottom as a PvP game (which is inarguable) and for at least 80% of the game’s development. And then they changed in the last minute and folks are expecting it to be some haven of PvE… And that makes me laugh.

A game with PvP combat, PvP UI, core PvP systems (though they are slowly tweaking many of these out of the game), and no sub… It’ll never satisfying PvE for most people.

Even small things like static resource nodes and og chest run idea… They scream open world PvP. There is almost nothing in this game that wasn’t originally designed with PvP in mind. If you can’t see that, I can’t help you.

yea all the delaying and waiting for this? lol. end boss is just a copy of Siren queen. The admiral is kinda like the first miniboss of gen.

Are you surprised though? The game is receiving little to no revenue. Barely anyone purchases from the cash shop for obvious reasons. Putting forth effort requires $$$ and until AGS see’s that profit, you sure going to see a trend of these same rehased “new” expeditions and enemies.

You’d be surprised at how so many big companies are not profitable yet they have money either from investors and/or parent companies. Of course I jumped the gun a bit by mentioning profit, you’re referring to revenue. So yes, same case applies. We don’t know what their revenue is, since they are a subsidiary of Amazon and Amazon has not mentioned much at all about Amazon Games in their SEC filings.

Anyways, going back to some big companies - Tesla was unprofitable up until 2 years ago. It was running on borrowed cash for the first 10 years. Why? Well, investors see it takes time to build such an ambitious project, and there were huge demands for Tesla cars, maybe not everyone, but enough for investors to see eventually in the next 10 years they will become profitable.

In this case, the investor is Amazon the parent company. They are sitting on 300 billion dollars of reserve, do you think a tiny game project would be a problem for them? lol. The whole Amazon Games isn’t worth 100 million, at least in my speculation. What’s another 100 million to Amazon if it can make the game very successful? It’s like you and I spend another $10.

Amazon is not expecting this game to make substantial revenue or profit, heck it might just be a little test project so they can write off this expense in their corporate taxes. I seriously doubt money has anything to do with hindering the dev of this game. I think they’re just having a hard time attracting talent.

Honestly I’m proud of Amazon Games in many ways. The graphics is beautiful, however it’s not optimized. I love the simplicity of just 3 hotbar skills. WoW is a nightmare to play… but there’s much can be learned from WoW. I just wish there’s more talents working on NW.

The new dungeon is easy as normal but I think will be challenging with mutations considering that you have so much different damage types and burn from the middle boss and lots of rend from the the final boss.

Most ppl already have the drops from this instance, there is no point in even doing it.

I don’t think the new expedition is that bad. Yeah I have noticed things from like Laz and Gen but overall I enjoyed it. I mean, I really love(d) Tempest but this one isn’t bad. Timewise, I would have liked it a little longer. Timewise I would say it is about as long as Genesis.

Didn’t blow my mind like Temp did and had a little higher hopes for this one but again, I enjoy this one and something I will run a bunch of times in.

For the end game expeditions here is my ranking list of how I like them:

  1. Tempest
  2. Genesis
  3. Barnacles
  4. Laz
  5. Dynasty
  6. Depths
