Thoughts on the Brimstone Sands hype

I just watched a streamer claim that BS is not that big an expansion, not that big a deal, and that the hype over it is being way oversold. It’s good, he argued, just not good enough to justify all the hype building for its release.

What this guy is overlooking is that for anyone (like me) who is a returning or a new player, we’re not going to be comparing the difference between what’s in the new expansion vs. what the game was like immediately before the expansion is released. What I will be comparing is the difference between the game in this expansion, and the game that I left in 2021. Since launch, the game has been improved in so many hugely important ways that the current state alone is enough to justify hype over returning, without any expansion. It’s that much better.

So the net effect is going to be that people are going to see a game that contrasts with either 1) what they remember about the launch title; or 2) what they’ve heard about the game they didn’t bother trying. Either way, it will be a dramatic difference.

The hype is justified and AGS deserves every bit of it.

After having played brimstone on the PTR it still seems a bit unfinished. It is a vast area. And bits do feel a bit empty

There is a load of content there though and the questing there is the best in the game IMO.

It is a great addition to the game, we will see on release of it meets expectations or not.

The quality of Brimstone Sands is going to be icing on the cake of otherwise pleasant surprises about how well the game actually plays now.
