Topaz Gypsum needs reworked

I’m going to make this as clear as possible for the devs and then I’m going to put my opinion at the end.

Feedback: The Topaz Gypsum collection NEEDS to be reworked.

My understanding of how it works: You take the Topaz potion and you then have 1 hour to collect Topaz Gypsum from level 55+ mobs. During that 1 hour you are only able to have 10 total Topaz Gypsum drop for you.

The Problem: The limitation of allowing only 10 Topaz Gypsum to drop in the 1 hour makes it so that if for any reason you miss one that dropped you’ve just wasted your topaz potion for the day and lost out on THREE cooldowns: The potion, the Gypsum and the cast.

Reasons you might miss a Topaz Gypsum drop could be that you just flat out don’t see the drop because of the chaos of the fight, someone kills a mob you have tagged somewhere you don’t see it and thus never see the drop, the game lags and registers you as receiving loot when you don’t actually receive it, the loot bag glitches into something and either makes it so you don’t see the bag or it is not able to be looted. I’m sure there are more reasons, but these are just a few that come to mind.

The solution: Don’t limit how many Gypsum Topaz you are able to loot per potion duration or if you absolutely MUST do it limit it to 15 or something. That way there is a buffer in case one of the above things happens or any other bugged out reason.

My opinion and feedback about how this “Feels” as a player:

I have played a number of MMOs and I realize that each one is different in it’s own way. However, the one thing they all have in common is that I quit playing them not to long after they introduced gated “daily” content that artificially slows progress.

I really enjoy New World even with ALL of the very frustrating bugs. I am still trying to stick with the game. I have to play casually and thus my time in game is precious to me. With the addition of the Gypsum 2 things happened:

First: My ability to log on during the work week to join a watermark run for an hour and obtain resources + a decent amount of expertise upgrades was nerfed into the ground. Instead of just adding the additional Gypsum system and leaving loot as it was you felt the getting rid of the motivation for people to do those runs was needed as well.

Second: Now, instead of spending an hour on a water mark run and then doing something else that I want to do. I am now required to sit in OPR queue and then run OPR, hope that I can find a successful gen/laz run, go and hope that I can get all 10 of my Topaz Gypsum from mobs that everyone else is also farming…the list goes on. Also, when it comes to expedition gen/laz Gypsum, thanks to the current system I don’t even benefit from running those due to my expertise level AND I have to pay 1.5k - 2k to even get into a run.

Finishing thoughts: I understand what you are trying to do to balance gearing and add additional reasons for people to do content. However, the system needs reworked. We as the players shouldn’t feel punished for not having the time/means to do everything needed EVERY DAY in order to progress our characters the slightest amount. When players feel like they are falling behind just because they don’t have time to “be sweaty” with the game then they stop wanting to log in.

I agree that the system is messed up.
I have yet to get all 10 in the hour. So far its always 7 or 8.
I would like to see the Topaz Gypsum just put into my inventory the way gold and Azoth is handled.
Also like some of the other types of Gypsum is done. The tree and trade skill gypsum as examples.
At the same time I would like to see the drop rate upped so that I am sure to get my 10 before the hour is up. Since I have yet to see all 10 of mine even though I look for bags pretty well.

My experience with this dumb design so far:
3 Tries. Same area, same mobs (Edengrove, lvl 58 boars).
Solo all 3 times. Avg. killing 3 mobs/min. (was not trying to kill fast).
1st day - got all 10 in 48min.
2nd go - got all 10 in 38min.
3rd go - only got 9 in the full hour. For the first 30min, only had 3 drop.

It should be 10 gypsum collected regardless of the time …

On paper it looks good, being able to do multiple activities that rewards you with gypsum. But not everyone wants to farm one hour of portals or two hours of OPR, etc. Maybe someone wants to gather resources for 2-3 hours. So if you skip those activities, you are missing out on the expertise bumps and it feels bad.

Why not have a single type of gypsum that drops at different rates from all the current activities and you need a fixed number of gypsum to craft an orb. That way, if someone only wants to gather resources or play OPR all day, they can craft a few gypsum orbs just from doing what they enjoy.

Also, please increase the drop rate of topaz gypsum and have it land in your inventory. This topaz gypsum farm feels like an activity that should the weaved into an elite run or when you are doing something else. Killing random mobs for 30 min+ just to gather this gypsum its very boring.

So far in 6 days doing this I have only got all 10 in the hour allowed, one time. Other days have been between 7 and 9.

I completely agree. Past few days I was always short 1 Topaz Gypsum and I am 100% sure I haven’t missed any bag. The problem is that the freaking bag can spawn INSIDE a rock or a tree or whatever and you just can not see.

I do not understand the limit at all. Why put limit onto something like this? Yes the limit for crafting the gypsum orb is fine but it makes no sense for topaz gypsum to be limited esp. if I need to drink a potion which lasts only an hour.

Either have the cap removed or make the gypsum drop into your inventory automatically like Ametyst gypsum.

Maybe allow topaz to drop until the player has 10 in inventory or the potion expires. That way if we miss one, we still stand a chance of getting all 10. It’s frustrating to have 9 in inventory and keep killing mobs until the potion expires even though you’re pretty sure you’re not going to get that 10th drop because it’s become apparent that you missed one somewhere.

And the Topaz gypsum should show up in your inventory like the Ruby or Sapphire gypsums do. Not a loot bag that can be hiding in the terrain or someplace stuck out of reach.

They said they’d increase droprate or whatever, but there’s also invisible cooldowns.

Ever notice topaz doesn’t drop two at the same time if you wipe out 30 mobs in a short amount of time? There’s a time between drops. Same as Obsidian Topaz drops being ~20 to ~30 minutes between drops if you farm named.

I also think that it would be the best solution to put the gypsum right into the inventory. So you can not miss the bags. When you play in a group this happens very often

There are more than one issue with Topaz Gypsum. Two of my last three attempts to farm Reekwater beasties for one hour resulted in less than 10 gypsum obtained. Do you have any idea how many mireloup you have to kill in an hour to acquire 175 wyrdwood when they only yield 2-3 wyrdwood each? That did not include the half dozen wolves and 4-5 cougar killed along the way. All that for 8 gypsum. So when I consume the next potion, I will only obtain 2 gypsum as you gate the amount of gypsum we can hold. I know this as the last time this happened 2 weeks ago, I got to 10 gypsum in my bag and did not have another drop for the remaining 25 minutes that I farmed.

That brings us to the other issue: the Matryoshka doll of gating going on in the game. Want to farm portals? Great! Once you get 7 gypsum in a day, however, you wont get any more until tomorrow. Why? The turn in for casting is already time gated? The gypsum is gated, the orb casting is gated and the actual gear upgrade casting is gated. You will have a great head start on the next MMO if Amazon greelights StarGate.

Pretty sure there’s a bug going on when other people are taking part in some of the kills. I have had it short of 10 for 3-4 days straight and I’m almost positive I didn’t miss any. The Lost in the north Ebonscale it happens way too often.

Except all my kills in Reekwater were solo. Sometimes it just does not work. So is the potion a gateway to gain access to an RNG table for topaz gypsum which is also gated? S#!t is getting more frustrating by the day… :man_facepalming:

Yeah I have had it miss solo too. There’s something glitched, this many people can’t be missing a drop. One of those time gate “bugs”.

Latest Topaz Gypsum “fun”. In a quick run of Sirens and Pools, I was able to accumulate 9 topaz gypsum and still had 20 minutes left on the potion. Of course, the next 20 minutes of solo killing ancients, elementals and other high level beasties in Reekwater yielded << ZERO >> additional gypsum. Don’t think I’m bothering with this potion anymore.

Bit of a necro post here, but have been getting 10 daily in the same spot since the patch. Something must have been off.

The solution is so easy… Make it so you can turn in 5 topaz for 1 gypsum. Then you can keep the leftover for the next day or next potion or if you get lucky and get all 10 then you can cash it in for 2 gypsum! Easier is better! Then players are HAPPY with topaz instead of MAD.

I decided to give it one last try with the remaining potion that I had. In one hour of non-stop solo farming in Reekwater, I accumulated NINE topaz gypsum with the last one dropping with 37 seconds on the potion. I’m done with it. It was designed to be used in a 5-10 man elite area where you can keep better track of drops and not for solo farming. Just another gated waste of time placed in the game to enhance the grind.

I am done…came back after a week…took potion…friend got his 10 in 35ish mins…I for an hour only got 8, in the previous 10 attempts got 10 once. I am done…going back to lost ark…most of their systems seem to work. It is grindy, but still not as grindy as this game.
