There are tiers to your territory based on the number of upgrades the governing company has completed. You likely upgraded to Tier 5 (Capital) with your last upgrade and the new cost is relfected by that. Hopefully your settlement generates enough revenue to afford it!
I’ve seen the tiers, but is it documented somewhere that the costs will double between tiers?
It isn’t a capital and is barely a “city” tier, but the upkeep in neighboring Windsward is also 100k and they are just a “town” tier that also has 100k+ upkeep now.
There is very little documentation for any mechanics in the game. Having said that, there are tiers and they are based on the number of upgrades. And the maintenance fee increases with every upgrade.
You do have a couple of options, none of which are great tbh. You can wait for a failed invasion to downgrade some projects or you can not pay the maintenance fee and let the settlement downgrade, and see if that changes the amount of maintenance fee due.
It’s also possible that there’s a bug with the maintenance fee after the patches…
Appreciate the response!
I think you are spot on. I found a table and post talking about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/qd12p8/territory_upkeep_cost_for_governing_companies/
We went from 29 total upgrades to 30, which had that huge jump from 50k to 100k that matches the table there.
We do have an invasion tonight so that should lower it to 27 or 28 upgrades and put us back at 50k or less.
What a crazy system! Thanks again for responding.
