I completly get the concept of different trading posts in different towns controlled by different factions and taxing the transactions there. it is a really good idea.
however it kind of has a huge downturn now…
because in the end this only leads to 1 or 2 towns being really important for trade. and every other settlement is completely irrelevant when it comes to the Trading Post. I mean nobody bothers with selling their stuff on the wrong market place and everybody just travels to this one main town where everybody else also sells…
it compares perfectly to Amazon btw. of course Amazon sells everything, so i do not bother to look into my local store around the corner.
My proposal:
why not link every trading post again so that you can do your stuff out of every town, but then let the trading tax be payed always in the town where the stuff was put into the trading post?
I know that idea is maybe also not the perfect solution but just wanted to start a mind game here.
otherwise it will lead in the long run only to the fact that everybody hangs out in Everfall and all other towns are abandoned because they are are irrelevant.
your thoughts?
I’m opposed to this because the decentralization of markets creates opportunities for folks to move goods to get money. That being said though if there was a centralized market there would be a need for taxes at both the source and destination for it to be comparable, i.e. import/export taxes.
Not necessarily. These two are in the center of the world (atleast now) so staying in the center to have roughly same distance to every other part of the world is optimal especialy for fast travel costs.
