This may be a well known issue but it’s something I only noticed a week ago. It appears there is a “scam” going on in the TP. People (or possibly bots as it happens 24 hours a day) are posting items for sale at about 1/10th of the usual price or less, always in two’s. It seems to involve a small range of items, Platinum Ore, any Mote. Rawhide and Iron Ore are the most common. The purpose seems to be to get people to post large quantities of the same item without checking the price so they default to the low price, then the scammer (or bot) buys this big post and resells them at the normal price making a significant profit. If I buy the two item post at the tiny price another two are posted within minutes (sometimes seconds) and so it goes on. I’ve bought hundreds of these low priced items in the past week but they are still reposted no matter what time of day or night. I can think of no other reason to continually post 2 items at a ridiculously low price. Like I say, this could be well known, I don’t think they break any rules it just seems very underhand and I hope people are very careful when posting items for sale.
Is there anything wrong with this? It’s just like people who list items way higher than they are worth in hopes someone isn’t paying attention and has the wrong sort filter in and pay way more then the item is worth?
If you aren’t willing to take a few seconds to check the whole board when posting that’s on you? I never list something at the lowest sell order price point…
Yeah those are trading bots, the same has been happening for months now.
Nope the Purpose is to get Bots, who are bad programmed.
This started 4-5months ago when Botter realized, that some Player did this ( which lowered there income ) and now it looks like some Botter, try to scam other Botter xD
This could be fixed by the trading post automatically executing buy-orders and sell-orders that overlap. Like if someone posts a buy order above that sell price, they should automatically buy all sell-orders for sale below their buy-order price.
It must be nice to be perfect. Unfortunately most people are not, they rush, they make mistakes, they are careless but when they do so they should not have to suffer because of crap like this. This issue could and I think should be overcome, along with that of super-high prices, for example if the system did not provide an automatic price so that the poster has to fill in a price each time then this should not happen, if it still does then it really is on the poster. Yes it’s slightly more inconvenient but it’s a price I for one would pay (so about the pun). In the meantime I’m going to continue buying these low posts and make a profit at their expense.
