I was really surprised to see that swimming wasn’t part of the game. It would be very fun to see AGS reasoning for this. Though I have heard rumours that they simply didn’t manage to get it to work, so they decided to just skip it.
Going to be a fun patch note when they get around to adding it, the big content of that patch; swimming
So… you like walking underwater while slowly drowning? Is that what you’re saying?
The truth of the matter is the devs couldn’t get a bug-free animation ready in time for release. If the game wasn’t ready by release it would have jeopardized their profits. They chose to make a quick buck rather than finish building the product. It’s not the first time a game developer has done this but I think we were all hoping Amazon would be different.
You really want to go there? Okay then answer me this. How can you run the same speed with all that gear on, food, items etc. yet naked and no items you still run the same speed? A bit unrealistic.
How can you climb up cliffs, run uphill without breaking a sweat nor slowing down with all your gear etc at the same speed as running downhill? A bit unrealistic.
I never seen anyone carry that much stuff in general and climb up cliffs like it is no big deal. A bit unrealistic.
How about all of a sudden getting a fire staff and knowing how to use it and learning spells out of the blue? A bit unrealistic.
How can you cut down huge trees in secs. Do some logging. And be able to carry all of that with ease? A bit unrealistic.
Walking pinned to the ground underwater like a normal walk yet if I go in the deep end of the pool it is impossible to do. A bit unrealistic.
In other words. It is a video game. My lord the swimming excuse people keep saying is the stupid argument for why we can’t swim.
Yeah they usually at least try to clean up their tracks. I feel like they could have path blocked the water sections pretty fast and then just added swimming at a later date. Instead we get this water death march. I don’t know why I assumed AMZ would be the company to care lmao
Interestingly enough, up until the nineteenth century the majority of Europeans could not swim. Not even the sailors. Swimming was considered an uncivilised activity and even before bathrooms became widespread people stuck to rivers to get their bathing done.
Sailors believed that if the ship capsizes or you go overboard you are going to die at sea anyway so no point in delaying the inevitable. A fair assumption on their part, considering how cold the sea is and the number of predators swimming close to surface.
Found the guy who shoots down every reasonable idea because he is simply a contrarian who thinks the game is fine as-is and doesn’t need the sweeping adjustments it desperately, actually needs.
